Dearest reader, we have an even greater mystery coming.

Summary:

  • Bridgerton is a Netflix romantic period drama series adapted from Julia Quinn's book series of the same name.
  • Like the books, each season of the show focuses on the love story of one of the Bridgerton siblings.
  • However, for the sake of the show, the writers have to change the original source quite a bit, and season 3 will be no exception.

Creating a TV show that grabs your attention and leaves you wanting more is one thing, but adapting a book franchise and turning it into something as great as Bridgerton is even harder.

You have to balance the original content with all the changes necessary to make an adaptation successful. And, of course, you have to be especially careful not to disappoint the die-hard fans who already have a certain image of the characters and their stories in their heads. So far, Shonda Rhimes and all the creatives at Shondaland are doing an impeccable job.

However, as season 3 gets closer and fans think more about it, they realize more and more that this season may be even more different from the books than the previous one.

How Will Penelope and Colin End Up Together?

The first bold move the creative team behind Bridgerton has already made is to swap Colin's book with Benedict's and move it forward in the timeline. Just to put it in perspective, if we don't see any major time jumps between season 2 and season 3, it will mean the loss of about 9 years of Colin's bachelor life.

A lot of the decisions that both Colin and Penelope make in Julia Quinn's book Romancing Mister Bridgerton are made out of their maturity, to show their growth. To do the same thing without jumping ahead a few years, Shonda Rhimes will have to somehow make sure that viewers see the internal growth develop on screen.

No one wants to see romance come out of nowhere, and judging by the way Colin acted in the season 2 finale, he has a lot of reflection to do.

Another big point is Colin's big reaction to learning Penelope's identity as Lady Whistledown. From what we've seen in season 2 of Bridgerton, the tension and scandal surrounding this revelation have been left to ruin the relationship between Penelope and Eloise instead.

While it might be a strange choice to repeat the same argument over and over again, it would be even stranger for Colin to just accept the role Penelope played in ruining Marina. It would be interesting to see how the show would avoid repetition and still keep the drama going.

Unfortunately, there is no news about the release date of Bridgerton season 3 at the moment. The latest update suggested by one of the show's stars, Nicola Coghlan, suggests that we'll see it premiere in 2024. Be sure to stay tuned for any behind-the-scenes news or updates!
