Bridgerton's Tragic Love Stories, Ranked from Pretty Sad to Gut-Wrenching
The Bridgerton-verse shows have made us cry more than once. Deaths, scandal, broken fates – all this and more is why we are glued to the screen every time a new season comes out.
There is nothing Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte do better than bringing us tear-jerking love stories. In case you need your daily reminder to shed a few tears, here are our top five saddest couples from the shows.
5. Theo & Eloise Bridgerton
This budding romance between members of different social classes is a sight for sore eyes.
Indifferent to scandal and drama of the ton, Eloise has always felt like an outcast in high society, so who could be a better match for her than a working man who shares her passion for literature and "radical" ideas?
Theo has awakened something in Eloise, and their enemies-turned-lovers story is heartwarming. Too bad they can't be together (all thanks to Lady Whistledown and the judgmental society of the 19th century).
4. Lord Ledger & Lady Danbury
In Bridgerton, we get to know Lady Danbury as a confident, self-sufficient widow who doesn't need a man in her life. In Queen Charlotte, we learn about the horrible marriage she's had to suffer through to get there.
Lord Ledger could've been her happily-ever-after if he hadn't already been married to Violet's mom. Their chemistry is off the charts, and we are truly sorry that things didn't work out for them.
3. Edmund Bridgerton & Violet Ledger
We're still waiting for that Violet-centric sequel, but these two have already found their way into our hearts even as a Bridgerton backstory.
Edmund and Violet's relationship is the reason most of their kids believe in marrying for love, and it just sucks that it had to be cut short because of something as mundane as a bee sting.
All good things must come to an end, but we really wish this marriage hadn't ended so abruptly.
2. Reynolds & Brimsley
The love story we deserved and the ending to it we didn't. The King's right hand and the Queen's trusted companion were destined to fall in love, but probably in another lifetime.
Their romance is an unexpected side story in Queen Charlotte that is doomed from the start. Reynolds' disappearance from Bridgerton speaks louder than words, and Brimsley's lonely dance in the spinoff has had us all weeping.
1. King George & Queen Charlotte
We knew how things would end for them before we even saw how their relationship started. Should we have been prepared for our hearts to be torn apart by that final scene? Yes. Were we? Absolutely not.
The beautiful story of George and Charlotte proves that love exists even when you don't expect it to. Sorrows and prayers go out to everyone who hasn't gotten to the final episode of Queen Charlotte yet.
We know that you are crying by this point, and we are sorry to make you. Be right back, making things worse and going to YouTube to watch the saddest scenes one more time.
