Bridgerton Fans Panic About One Iconic Book Scene Not Making It Into S3
People demand to see the battle of the century re-enacted.
Summary:
- Bridgerton is a romantic period drama adapted from Julia Quinn's novel series of the same name.
- The show follows the book series structure, with each season following a different Bridgerton sibling's love story.
- Season 3 will tell the story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
- Fans of the couple fear the show won't be able to recreate the scene where Colin asks Penelope's mother's blessing for marriage.
The team behind any television production can only do so much to do justice to the book they're adapting. Some scenes, no matter how great they are on the page, are not going to look as good on the screen, so they have to be changed. The same goes for some of the major storylines, as well as the entire existence of some characters.
Shondaland and Netflix have not been afraid to make some changes to the stories they have already adapted in seasons 1 and 2 of Bridgerton. Season 3 will be no exception. For starters, it's already missing one of the characters who was present throughout the book.
In the absence of Featherington's fourth daughter, Felicity, there is a fear that Shondaland will decide to cut one of the most superior scenes from the original Romancing Mister Bridgerton book.
Colin Bridgerton and Portia Featherington Talk
One of the novel's greatest moments was Colin's conversation with Penelope's mother to ask for her daughter's hand in marriage. Not only was it great to see him finally announce his feelings for people to see, but he also managed to startle Portia, who didn't believe in her third daughter's prospects at all.
However, the scene involved Felicity, who is not on the show at all. When Colin asks for Portia's daughter's hand, she's sure he's asking for Felicity's hand in marriage and becomes an obnoxious matchmaker before Colin manages to clear the air once and for all.
The scene is as funny as it is on the page, but Luke Newton and Polly Walker 's acting could elevate it to something even greater on the show. The only concern is: how will the setup work without the youngest Featherington sister in the picture? Adding her in season 3 would have been awkward, but there's still a chance.
From season 2, only one of Penelope's sisters, Philipa, finally got married. The second, Prudence, will probably be looking for a suitor in season 3 as well, so Portia might as well believe that Colin will propose to her instead.
Depending on whether there is any screen time left for the funny parts, the scene may also be included in the script.
To see which book plots will make it into the final cut of season 3 and which will be left out, be sure to tune in to the Season 3 premiere of Bridgerton on May 16, 2024 on Netflix.
