No matter how hard fans try not to get too excited about Bridgerton season 3 now that they've been waiting more than a year and a half for it, it's hard to contain the feelings when there's so much teasing going on. The time the show spent developing the characters of the Featherington family was the main point of criticism not only for the first season of the show but also for the second. Though Julia Quinn didn't put as much emphasis on them in her books, Shonda Rhimes took a different route, and it was one of her most controversial decisions.

One could argue that Featheringtons takes too much time away from the main characters' stories, but without showing at least some of their stories, it would be impossible to show viewers the background of Penelope, the main love interest of season 3. It's funny how all of this family's problems seem to have the same origin.

For the past two seasons, the Featheringtons have been haunted by their own cousins. First it was Marina Thompson, a beautiful young woman who came into the Featheringtons' lives with a child and the intention of finding a husband. After almost marrying Colin, she was saved by Sir Philip Crane, only to appear once in season 2.

However, during the second season, her place was taken by another cousin who came to Featheringtons as the new head of the family to replace Penelope's murdered father. When he turned out to be a fraud, he almost succeeded in fooling all of London society and dragging the Featherington name through the mud even further.

At the last minute, Lady Featherington managed to save her situation and make ends meet by playing cousin Jack instead.

Now that season 3 is about to focus entirely on Penelope Featherington, people are expecting a deeper look into her family business and reputation, and we can only hope that the curse of mischievous cousins is finally over.
