Bridgerton Fans Aren’t Sold on Yassified Regency Looks for S3

If there's one thing no one expects from Bridgerton at this point, it's historical accuracy. Based on the novel series of the same name by Julia Quinn, written in the 00s, the show is technically set in the early 19th century. However, the Regency era has always been portrayed very loosely by the Bridgerton team.

The show took some creative liberties with the etiquette and fashion of the characters. Modernized, the show did not satisfy hardcore period drama aficionados, but it was a hit with those looking for a fairy-tale escape from the hardships of reality. So Shondaland and Netflix continued at the same pace.

One thing Bridgerton never was, however, was over-the-top. You may have noticed that it got rid of some historical elements in the characters' appearances in season 2 (yes, we're talking about Anthony's mutton chops), but that didn't mean a full switch to 2020s fashion. Everyone is still hoping that won't be the case in season 3.

Bridgerton Makeup and Hair Accuracy

While the ladies' hairstyles are not too far removed from the reality of 1810s London, although they are mostly elevated from everyday day to night styles, their makeup is far from realistic. Regency women already had a few beauty hacks up their sleeves, but their makeup definitely wasn't this smooth.

Although the Bridgerton makeup artists have made sure that the characters look both presentable and realistic, considering the age range of the Bridgerton siblings in seasons 1 and 2, season 3 may bring the change that not everyone appreciates.

The characters still look great, but their makeup looks like it was done by a YouTube beauty blogger.

Comparing the pictures from season 1 or 2 and season 3 side by side, fans were able to point out how much heavier the makeup looks in the new pictures. It is still just as beautiful, but it is so out of time that it threatens to break the immersion.

“I know this is a stylised version of the Regency era, but they all look like they're going clubbing. It's really distracting and it means when I'm looking at their faces, I'm not seeing their expressions of their reactions first, but the really heavy lip and eye shadow,” Redditor GCooperE pointed out.

The fact that each season so far has taken about two years to release doesn't help at all. The younger cast members are growing up fast, and instead of making them look at least a little bit younger with makeup, the team only emphasizes that.
