Bridgerton Fans Agree: Penelope Had It So Much Worse Than Eloise
Bridgerton fans are still reeling from the show's second season and all its drama.
The period show's two heroines, Eloise Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington have both won over audiences with their wit, charm, and determination.
However, when it comes to their respective struggles, fans seem to agree that Penelope had it much worse than her best friend, Eloise.
Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan, is the youngest daughter of the Featherington family, who are known for their garish fashion and social climbing.
Throughout the seasons, Penelope is constantly belittled by her mother and older sisters for not being as beautiful or fashionable as they are.
She's also subjected to the cruelty of her peers, who make fun of her appearance and lack of suitors.
On the other hand, we have Eloise, the second eldest of the Bridgerton siblings, who is portrayed as independent and headstrong.
But unlike Penelope, Eloise is not interested in marriage and is more focused on pursuing her own interests and ambitions.
While Eloise's story is certainly compelling, and we can sympathize with both women, many fans argue that Penelope's struggles were far more difficult to endure.
Although Eloise also feels confined by societal expectations, she benefits from the support of her large and well-liked family.
Even if she never marries, she can always rely on her siblings for help, and their wealth undoubtedly provides a safety net.
Penelope, however, is much less privileged, as her family is destitute and not very popular. She has no suitors and is essentially invisible to high society and even to her own family, who disregards her.
And not only was she constantly ridiculed by all those people, but she also had to deal with an unrequited crush on Colin Bridgerton.
This caused her a great deal of pain and heartache, which was only compounded by Colin's derogatory comments in the season's finale about how he would never dream of courting her.
It's clear that both women feel trapped in this society.
While they face their own unique challenges in the world of Bridgerton, it's evident that Penelope's struggles were particularly difficult to bear as she had to rely on her own strength and resilience to overcome them.
No matter which character you're rooting for, there's no denying that both Eloise and Penelope are powerful and inspiring young women in their own right.
