Brendan Fraser's Critics Choice Win Will Make You Reach for the Kleenex
The actor's highly-anticipated return in The Whale has already been hailed as one of the most impressive comebacks of 2022.
Brendan Fraser has received yet another round of applause on social media when he won Best Actor at the Critics Choice Awards for his performance in The Whale.
The video showing the moment when Fraser's victory was announced quickly went viral, with fans weeping over how everyone at the actor's entire table immediately rose up to their feet and celebrated his win like their own.
Fraser could not make it to the stage without being stopped by several people in the crowd who wanted to hug him and congratulate him for his deserved victory. But it turns out that the emotional rollercoaster was only getting started, because Fraser's acceptance speech was heart-wrenching enough to live the audience sobbing — as well as pretty much every Twitter user who followed the Critics Choice updates.
According to fans, Fraser deserves all the awards for his performance in The Whale after what he's been through. In 2018, the actor revealed that back in 2003, he was groped by former HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) president, Philip Berk. While Berk denies the allegations, he was removed from the Association.
In the wake of sexual assault scandal, Fraser briefly disappeared from the spotlight, but ascended back to the stardom with The Whale, bathing in fan love and support as he continues to garner awards for his performance.
The Whale was released on December 9, 2022, but is not currently available on any streaming platforms, and will not be "anytime soon," according to the movie's director Darren Aronofsky.
