Brendan Fraser Confesses He Almost Died On The Set
Brendan Fraser recently made his big screen comeback in Darren Aronofsky's The Whale.
But most people fell in love with the actor after he played Rick O'Connell in 1999's The Mummy.
The Mummy was a break from other mummy movies that were either just scary or just weird with bad graphics and ridiculous mummies.
The movie, directed by Stephen Sommers, was a road movie, a comedy with sharp jokes, and an adventure with horror elements at the same time.
All of this made the movie a resounding success, leading to two sequels. It turned out that it all almost did not happen.
Speaking at The Kelly Clarkson Show, Brendan Fraser has revealed that he almost died on the set of the first Mummy movie.
"The camera swooped around and I went up on the toes and the guy holding the rope above me, he pulled it up a little higher and I was stuck on my toes and I had nowhere to go but down.
So he was pulling up and I was going down. And then the next thing I knew, my elbow was in my ear, the world was sideways and there was gravel in my teeth," the actor said.
Fans are certainly glad that this situation ended well, as there have been high-profile cases in Hollywood where actors have died during filming. The tragic death on the set of The Crow of actor Brandon Lee is still fresh in everyone's mind.
The revolver Lee was shot with was loaded with blank cartridges, but the gunpowder ignited and a bullet fragment flew into the actor, who died later in the hospital.
Just recently, a painfully similar tragedy occurred on the set of Rust, when Alec Baldwin accidentally shot a cameraman on set and is now facing charges.
Fans hope that incidents like this, with both happy and unhappy endings, will heighten the vigilance of filmmakers to the point where it never happens again.
