Bob Odenkirk To Lead New Series 'Straight Man' For AMC
'Better Call Saul' is preparing to premiere its final 6th season. AMC is obviously sore to see their hit show go, so the decision behind sticking with series star Bob Odenkirk is entirely understandable.
Starting out as a 'Breaking Bad ' spin-off centered on fan favorite lawyer Saul Goodman, 'Better Call Saul ' quickly came into its own, earning a hefty viewership with that. Looks like Odenkirk's new show is already reaching its development stage, as AMC is eager to cement their working relationship with Emmy-nominated actor.
'Straight Man' will follow the story of the chairman of the English department in Pennsylvanian Rust Belt College. The series is based on Richard Russo's eponymous 1997 novel. The book was described as "hilarious and true-to-life, witty, compassionate, and impossible to put down" (official synopsis from Vintage publishing house), so Odenkirk's penchant for touching performances should fit right in with the novel's mood. Another Russo's novel 'Empire Falls' was famously adapted for television by HBO, receiving multiple Golden Globe and Emmy awards.
AMC is eyeing a 2023 release date, so Odenkirk fans have to wait just a bit to see him play an eccentric college professor.
