Let's hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

There is nothing that Bridgerton book fans are happier about than the accuracy of certain scenes or lines. Any show that is adapted from a novel or novel series, as Bridgerton is, has to change some things and add others to make the story exciting for the screen, but the closer it is to the source material, the less backlash the team will face.

Unfortunately, Bridgerton fans have already had a tragic experience with Julia Quinn's original story, which was so scandalized that the show became ethically questionable. The second season and the love triangle between the two sisters was only saved by the chemistry between Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley.

But from the looks of things, this may not be the last time the show decides to break the canon rules.

What Are the Main Bridgerton Couples?

According to the Bridgerton series of novels, each of the 8 Bridgerton siblings gets their happy ending. So far, Shondaland's writers have been faithful to the source material, so Daphne ended up with Simon, Anthony with Kate, and Colin is about to get engaged to Penelope.

However, since the books were written in the 2000s, the definition of "happily ever after" has changed quite a bit. Not including people of color and any queer stories isn't the path any modern TV show wants to take, so viewers have always expected some storytelling liberties.

So far, everyone has been under the impression that the main couples will remain the same. Answering one of the fans on Facebook, Julia Quinn has revealed the detail that can change any couple that goes next. Their contract doesn't explicitly state that every single one of them should stay the same.

Considering how many shippers there are for new characters Theo and Eloise, and how many fans headcanon their favorites as LGBTQ+ characters, this news opens up a whole new perspective on how Bridgerton will evolve next. If Shonda Rhimes' hopes come true and the show gets to cover all 8 love stories, the possibilities are endless.
