Summary
- Adult Swim continues to release new episodes of Ninja Kamui, a series about a former ninja seeking revenge on his clan.
- The series was created by the creators of Jujutsu Kaisen, so we should expect equally epic animation.
- Ninja Kamui is now available to stream on Max and Prime.
Adult Swim is no less famous than Crunchyroll or Netflix for introducing Western audiences to the world of Japanese anime. After all, it's where many iconic Japanese shows from Trigun to Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion to Ghost in the Shell and Death Note once aired. And most of all, we should thank Toonami for its huge contribution to the popularization of Japanese pop culture, introducing viewers not only to teen animation, but also to many truly mature stories, including those listed above.
Just under a month ago, Adult Swim's Toonami premiered the first episode of Ninja Kamui, an epic anime series that combines a love of '80s ninja movies, neo-noir action and crime thrillers. You can also expect some insanely fast-paced sequences as the creators of Jujutsu Kaisen worked on the new anime. All the more reason to check out the new show now that it is available on Max and Prime.
A New Anime Series from Adult Swim
Ninja Kamu is an original series developed for Adult Swim by Japanese studios E&H Production and Sola Digital Arts, whose key figures are director/animator Sunghoo Park and producer/writer Joseph Chou (both of Korean descent). For many avid anime fans, these names speak volumes. After all, they have worked on such massively popular projects as Jujutsu Kaisen (its first season) and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, as well as The God of High School.
The plot follows Higan, a former member of the ninja clan who, after fleeing to the US with his family, lives in rural America under the alias of Joe Logan. However, their peaceful idyll is brutally shattered when former clan members find Higan and kill his family. Fueled by a thirst for revenge, the protagonist embarks on a bloody quest, working with the FBI and discovering that the ninjas are in cahoots with a powerful corporation.
The Anime Will Appeal to Seasoned Fans of Both Japanese Pop Culture and Action Movies
In fact, the plot is not very original and is based on classic revenge clichés: we've already seen this in John Wick, for example. However, let's not forget that many cult anime that Ninja Kamui was clearly inspired by didn't have incredibly deep plots either, but were quite gripping, suspenseful and engaging.
Remember, for example, Black Lagoon, Afrosamurai, or even the relatively recent Gangsta. Each of these anime is known for its style, explicit graphic content, level of maturity, and animation quality. And considering that the people who worked on Jujutsu Kaitsen were involved, you should expect an incredibly epic ride.
Where and How to Watch This Epic Anime?
