The TV portion of the expanded Star Trek Universe seems to thriving, at least in quantity.

Star Trek Discovery is set to return with its fifth and final season in 2024.

Star Trek: Picard, which brought back the iconic eponymous hero, is now in its final run, with Star Trek: Strange New World on its way to the second season.

Apart from that we have Star Trek: Prodigy, aimed at younger viewers, and an anthology series Short Tracks. That's not to mention several projects in development.

But what if we told you that the best Star Trek series out there right now is not one from the list above?

Yes, we're indeed talking about Star Trek: Lower Decks (its fourth season is expected this year). Although this adult comedy animated series has received mixed reviews from the critics, fans seem to love it.

Fans think that Lower Decks "feels like a show that is unquestionably written by people who know Star Trek and love it."

The praise for the series goes as far as to state that this show is "a whole lot more like Star Trek than anything else this side of the millennium."

Looks like fans perceive Lower Decks as "unironically the best Star Trek since DS9."

Fans apparently "absolutely love it", as more and more of trekkies (an established name for Star Trek fans) express their affection for the series.

"Yeah it's like if Big Bang Theory was actually written by nerds instead of just running some references by them," Redditor 3-DMan says.

In current times of high-brow series, which tend to be gloomy and serious more often than not, Lower Decks provide a much-needed comic relief.

"All in all, I love the show for being relatively light-hearted overall. It is about the joy of being in Starfleet – a good time all around," Redditor InnocentTailor shares.

If you haven't yet seen Lowed Decks for some reason, those fans' ecstatic reviews might really make you want to look it up.

The list of fans' delights and accolades just goes on and on. But we will finish at probably the highest praise a Star Trek series can get, that is Lowed Decks seem to be made "by trekkies, for trekkies."
