Best Crime Thriller of 2024 With 94% Tomatometer Is Coming to Max in July
Don’t miss the hottest movie of the year!
This year can’t be really considered fruitful for top-notch crime flicks. Yes, we’ve seen such decent gems as Jason Statham ’s The Beekeeper and Glen Powell Hit Man that contained some elements of the genre, but the other ones were quite disappointing.
However, one incredibly captivating neo-noir gem was released this March, and it offered a unique combination of the genres that is now rarely seen on the big screen. We bet you still haven’t seen it; luckily, it begins streaming on Max already next month.
This movie gem starts by introducing us to Lou, an asocial gym manager who comes from a criminal family that is holding the whole town in its hands by possessing an illegal weapon business. She is forced to stay in town as she protects her weaker sister.
However, her life turns upside down when she meets bodybuilder Jackie, for whom she falls heavily in love. The more their relationship develops, the more relentless crimes of Lou’s family and Jackie’s steroid addiction interfere with their passionate romance.
This must-watch blends elements of neo-noir, comedy, sports and family drama, westerns and, of course, romance and crime movies and does it in a surprising way. This mix has its peak in the film’s unforgettable ending that has the audience thrilled.
The stylistic decisions used in this movie and its atmosphere can remind you of old school thrillers, like Terrence Malick’s Badlands (1973) or the Coens’ Blood Simple (1984).
Moreover, it’s also very much reminiscent of already cultish crime movies of the 21st century, such as Jessica Alba ’s Sin City (2005) and Ryan Gosling ’s Drive (2011). If you enjoyed the unnerving, yet eye-catching tone of these gems, you’ll like the 2024 movie too.
Titled Love Lies Bleeding, this multi-genre masterpiece gained much critical acclaim for its direction, impeccable script and convincing acting performances. It assembles an all-star cast of Kristen Stewart, Katy O'Brian, Jena Malone, Dave Franco, and Ed Harris.
“It was, for me, genuinely exciting and darkly funny and…gah I don’t want to say “sexy” as a positive way to describe the movie but yeah it does hit those notes,” says Redditor @ICUMF1962 about this 94%-rated film.
Every cinema lover shouldn’t miss this emotional roller coaster of a movie, so mark the date: Love Lies Bleeding will become available on HBO Max on July 19.
