The actor is back to highly dramatical, yet disturbing roles, and fans just can’t get enough of it.

After staying in the shadows for a while, Benedict Cumberbatch is back to the small screens with a leading role in Netflix ’s brand new thriller miniseries Eric, and fans were quick to prove that the actor had been dearly missed.

Released on May 30, Eric needed only a few days to enter Netflix’s global top 10 chart, dethroning the streaming’s recent big hit, Bridgerton. According to the latest data provided by FlixPatrol, the Benedict Cumberbatch-led series is now holding a number one position in the global chart and the second place in the US top.

What Is Eric About?

Starring Cumberbatch as a puppeteer with some big issues in his family life, the miniseries follows Vincent Anderson whose nine-year-old son Edgar suddenly goes missing.

After numerous attempts to bring his child back home which later on results in his aggravated relationships with the rest of the family, Vincent starts finding consolation in substance abuse, and this is when he becomes obsessed with the idea of reuniting with Edgar by getting some help from his seven-foot-tall puppet, Eric.

Dropped on Netflix just several days ago, Eric nonetheless was quick to garner everyone’s attention and receive critical acclaim, currently holding positive scores of 71% and 69% from critics and viewers respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.

Many of those who already binge-watched the entire show pointed out to Cumberbatch’s powerful complex performance that clearly corresponds to the series’ equally complex storyline full of versatile issues that concerns difficulties of parenthood and ways to cope with personal trauma.

Ahead of Eric’s release back in May, the actor himself admitted that the show gave him a truly unique opportunity to get a closer look at such a rarely shown craft as puppetry, stressing that he felt privileged to dive deeper into the whole process of creating and operating puppets.

Eric can now be streamed on Netflix worldwide.
