Beetlejuice 2 Won’t Feature 2 Original Stars For a Very Logical Reason
And it has to do with their characters’ very specific condition.
Summary:
- Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice was released more than 35 years ago, but its upcoming sequel proves that the whole story hasn’t been put to its end yet — unlike some major characters who won’t make their comeback in Beetlejuice 2.
- One of the original movie’s actresses has recently reflected on her absence in the sequel and explained it.
- Apart from her, one more actor from the original main cast will be missing — most likely for the same reason.
Though it’s been more than 35 years since Beetlejuice was released in cinemas, the time hasn’t managed to put the story to its end.
A sequel for Tim Burton’s comedy horror is making its way back to the screens this year, accompanied by already familiar faces from the original movie as well as by new characters portrayed by Hollywood’s biggest stars at the moment.
Despite the famous story’s life going on, the time still didn’t manage to save some other iconic characters — and, according to Beetlejuice’s actress, it’s the main reason why they didn’t get to appear in the upcoming sequel.
The news that keeps coming in regarding Beetlejuice 2’s casting and plot details clearly suggest that the sequel won’t feature the characters whose appearance actually marked the very beginning of the story.
As many may recall it, Beetlejuice opens with Adam and Barbara Maitland deciding to benefit from their vacation by decorating their country house Winter River, but both eventually die in a car crash and turn into ghosts stuck in the house.
Why Isn’t Geena Davis in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice?
Geena Davis, who portrayed Barbara back then, has recently shared her thoughts about why she hadn’t been invited to join the cast of Beetlejuice 2. The actress revealed that she didn’t know the real reasons, but her own theory was based on the fact that ghosts couldn’t age, unlike herself.
Davis then attributed the same explanation to the fact that Alec Baldwin, who played Adam Maitland, hadn’t been mentioned among the sequel’s actors either. According to the actress, her and Baldwin’s characters “were stuck the way they looked when they died forever, so it's been a while, it's been a minute”.
Tim Burton’s sequel for his own iconic movie so far hasn’t revealed much plot details and mostly only teased some major changes in the storyline in a recent trailer. Beetlejuice 2 is set to be released in cinemas on September 6.
