Batman Star Won’t Ever Return as Caped Crusader
And maybe that’s for the better.
Summary:
- Batman & Robin is unanimously considered one of the worst attempts to bring the Caped Crusader to the big screen
- Still, George Clooney briefly reprised the role for a cameo appearance in 2023's The Flash
- However, the actor has made it clear that he will not play the character again
George Clooney has had his share of iconic roles throughout his long and prolific career, from Seth Gecko in 1996's From Dusk till Dawn to Danny Ocean in the Ocean's Eleven franchise, which rightfully earned him the title of Hollywood legend.
However, many great actors have particularly embarrassing moments in their careers, and there seems to be no force in the world that will make Clooney reprise the role of a certain legendary superhero.
Batman & Robin Was A Total Disaster From Start To Finish
Over the many years of Batman's existence, many actors have played the character, each bringing a unique touch to their portrayal, and every fan of the Caped Crusader has their own favorite cinematic iteration of the hero.
But unfortunately, 1997's Batman & Robin, starring Clooney and Chris O'Donnell as the titular characters, remains one of the worst attempts to bring the beloved superhero to the big screen for a multitude of reasons.
The fourth installment in the Batman film series, which began with Tim Burton's excellent 1989 film, with each new installment being worse than the last, Batman & Robin was the final nail in the franchise's coffin.
With cringe-worthy acting, a silly plot, and atrocious costume design (many fans had to wash their eyes with bleach after seeing the Bat-nipples), it was a far cry from the great movie that started it all.
Clooney, who is clearly aware of the film's quality, was the third actor to play Batman in the series, after Michael Keaton, who portrayed the character in the first two films, and Val Kilmer, who starred in the third.
Clooney Was Pretty Clear About Never Reprising The Role Of Batman Again
After Keaton reprised the role in this year's The Flash, fans were quite surprised to see Clooney in the movie as well, even though his part was very brief.
In his recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, George shed some light on the cameo, stating that there aren't "enough drugs in the world" for him to play Bruce Wayne ever again.
It also seems that the actor was willing to wear his infamous costume with the aforementioned rubber nipples, only for the film's creators to reject the idea.
Fans point out that the disastrous quality of Batman & Robin can hardly be blamed on Clooney, and many of them admit that it was actually pretty funny to see him randomly popping up at the end of The Flash.
Either way, in light of the actor's comment, it certainly seems like it was the last time we saw his take on the character, for better or worse.
