After the controversial reception of the second season, the show's creators seem to be playing it safe.

Summary:

  • Despite its polarizing reception, Reacher season 2 was a hit, and season 3 is already in the works
  • The author of the original novels, Lee Child, reveals that the story will once again follow Jack on a solo adventure
  • Fans appreciate the return to the atmosphere of the first season and speculate on which book it will be based on

After the overwhelming success of the first season of the Reacher TV series, which was released in 2022 and received unanimous praise from fans, no one could have predicted that the second season of the show would be so divisive.

While some viewers had no problems with it, believing that season 2 was on par or only slightly inferior to its predecessors, a significant number of others were incredibly disappointed with it, claiming that it was a massive downgrade in almost every aspect.

Still, that didn't stop season 2 from becoming a huge hit, leading to the show being renewed almost immediately for a third season, which is already in production.

Reacher Season 3 Will Return To ‘Lone Wolf’ Adventures

But it seems that the show's creators are aware of the controversy that lingered throughout the second season, as a new hopeful update suggests that the next chapter of Reacher's story will return to the familiar formula.

In a recent interview with The Messenger, Lee Child, author of the original book series and executive producer of the series, shed a little more light on what to expect from the upcoming third season.

He revealed that they have already chosen the book on which season 3 will be based, and that he is quite pleased with it, as the story will focus more on Jack's solo adventures this time around, which is different from the team effort we saw in season 2.

Although some viewers liked that the second season put Reacher in a new environment and showed him interacting with his former comrades, as mentioned above, not everyone appreciated such a change in tone.

Many fans compared the show's first season to a neo-western, with Jack wandering into a town only to get caught up in its problems and end up helping the townspeople defeat the bad guys.

So when the second season shifted its focus to dealing with a conspiracy involving the sale of advanced weapons to terrorists, they felt that the show lost a lot of its charm and leaned more toward a generic action movie plot.

With all that in mind, they consider a return to the season 1 formula of Reacher being on his own and dealing with relatively small-scale problems, which worked like a charm, to be a wise choice, so they hope that season 3 will prove to be less controversial.

Which Book Will Reacher Season 3 Be Based On?

As for which book the show will be based on, there isn't enough information at this point to make any assumptions, as there are currently 28 books in the series.

However, the star of the show, Alan Ritchson, recently mentioned that the second book, Die Trying, is his favorite of the series and he is looking forward to seeing it adapted into a TV show.

Those fans who have read the original novels also mention that they fall into three categories: Reacher dealing with small town problems, investigating military or government corruption, and flashbacks to his time in the military.

This makes one wonder if one of the future seasons of the series (if it is renewed for season 4, of course) will explore Jack's past in more detail, as season 2 limited such flashbacks to brief scenes.

Since Reacher season 3 is currently in the early stages of development, no release date has been announced.

Do you like the idea of Reacher season 3 returning to the atmosphere of season 1?
