She’s clearly upset, but for a very different reason.
Summary:
- Netflix ’s biggest hit Baby Reindeer has been causing a lot of heated discussions lately in an attempt to unveil the real-life prototypes’ personalities — now the woman who supposedly inspired the show’s stalker has decided to reflect on the series herself.
- Baby Reindeer initially follows bartender Donny whose sympathy for a female guest in his bar turns into the character’s biggest nightmare.
- Judging by the comments of the woman who is presumably behind the stalker’s character, her side of the story is completely different.
It took only a week for Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer to completely blow Netflix away — released earlier in April, the drama-thriller miniseries has been thriving on the streaming’s top and isn’t losing its ground anytime soon.
The show’s plot is based on a real-life creepy story and follows a stranded writer Donny chased by a female stalker after they once meet at a bar.
Now that Baby Reindeer is the main subject of everyone’s talks, the real story’s main face comes in — and she claims to be the one who inspired the most disturbing character in the whole show.
Baby Reindeer is created by and stars Richard Gadd whose life experience of being stalked and sexually assaulted becomes the main focus of the series. Martha Scott, who is portrayed by Jessica Gunning, makes her first appearance in there when she is seen very frustrated while sitting at the bar where Donny works as a bartender.
The latter decides to express his sympathy with a complimentary tea for the woman, but she perceives this signal in a very wrong way. Not too much time passes before Donny realizes that his innocent action deluded Martha into believing that he got romantic feelings for her — and then the woman takes drastic measures to not let Donny go.
Eventually Baby Reindeer got so much fame that hardly anyone hasn’t seen it so far — and even Martha’s prototype isn’t an exception. According to Daily Mail, the woman that claims to be the prototype for the female stalker’s character in the show has spoken out about Baby Reindeer’s success — and her reaction may be quite far away from what everyone would expect.
As the woman who preferred to stay unnamed revealed, Gadd’s show boils down to only “bullying an older woman on television for fame and fortune” while she feels like an actual victim right now receiving endless “death threats and abuse from Richard Gadd supporters”.
The woman added that she has all the reasons to consider herself the one who suffered more — as she put it, “he’s written a bloody show about me”.
The fans’ yearning for diving deeper into the show’s dramatical story clearly got out of the creator’s control.
The latter previously asked the viewers to stop speculating on Baby Reindeer’s real-life prototypes as, according to Gadd, “that’s not the point of our show”.
