Although we all hear about the miracle stories of celebrities who get noticed and go on to have extremely successful careers, there are many actors who aren't lucky enough to get the same treatment. Sometimes it's a matter of talent, and sometimes they just don't meet the standards of many roles.
Either way, the older the actors are, the more effort they have put into their careers over the years. Sometimes it takes a couple of decades to get the role of your dreams, and that is what happened to Baby Reindeer star Jessica Gunning, who is now known to the whole world.
Who Is Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning?
Jessica Gunning's portrayal of Martha Scott, Gadd's cold and resourceful stalker, is now familiar to anyone who has watched the thriller. As the show has been at the top of Netflix for weeks, the number of people raving about her performance is now in the millions, and that is exactly what every actor strives for.
However, it hasn't been a quick road for the actress. Speaking to Harper's Bazaar, Gunning admitted that she'd been waiting for this opportunity for years before it presented itself in the best possible script she could have hoped for.
“I’ve been acting now for about 17 years, and I can honestly say I’ve never ever read a part like this before. I don’t know if it’ll take another 17 years for a part like this to come along again. I don’t think there will be [another role like this one], really,” she said.
One of Jessica Gunning's first credits was in the 2008 Doctor Who episode Partners in Crime, where she appeared against the 10th Doctor, portrayed by David Tennant, and his companion Donna Noble, portrayed by Catherine Tate. The actress went on to star in a variety of crime dramas, from Law & Order: UK to 2018's Strike.
The actress, who was mostly given supporting roles, gained a bit more recognition after getting a role in Outlaws, where she portrayed Diane Pemberley, who oversees the Community Work Center. Still, this role cannot compare in complexity to Baby Reindeer's Martha, which must be a dream role for any actress.
Hopefully, with all the doors now open to Gunning as Netflix's new star, we'll see more of her projects in 2025. Until then, you can enjoy her performance in the thriller Baby Reindeer on Netflix.
