The first week of November was definitely an emotional rollercoaster for all Attack on Titan fans, no matter if they read the original manga or not. After long months of excruciating wait, the series finale is here, and it's just as heartbreaking as you'd expect it to be. Warning: spoilers ahead!
Before the two final episodes aired, we already knew that Eren, fully transformed into the menacing Founding Titan, had kickstarted the Rumbling in order to wipe out 80% of the world's population.
Who could have known that the passionate boy from the early seasons who swore to exterminate all titans would lead them to destroy humanity instead? Well, Eren himself did; as we came to realize later, he was able to see the future when he kissed Historia's hand in the end of season 3.
Turns out, there was another foreshadowing in that exact episode; although some may call it a stretch, but Attack on Titan loves to play with our minds way too much for us to believe it's just a coincidence.
Did Historia Foreshadow The Founding Titan and The Rumbling?
Before Eren gets to kiss Historia's hand in the end of season 3, we can see the queen holding out a necklace and then giving it to Eren. If you look closely, the necklace resembles the Founding Titan in all his horrifying glory that we got to witness in the final season.
The shape of the necklace in a certain frame aligns perfectly with the skeleton of the Founding Titan, and many fans believe it was a subtle foreshadowing of the horrors that are to come.
Now Eren's terrified look after kissing Historia's hand is even more understandable, isn't it? Even if the "foreshadowing" is a stretch, it's still a beautiful Easter egg, especially for that particular episode that turned out to be such a game-changer for Attack on Titan.
