It looks like Sony is finally making solid progress in developing its original Marvel movies, trying to distance itself from recent failures.

Perhaps the extremely negative reaction that 'Morbius ' received back in March has affected the studio's entire production process. The Sonyverse is in desperate need of a critical and audience reassessment, and the upcoming Aaron Taylor-Johnson-led project may be the first necessary step along the way. The film will center on the legendary Spider-Man villain Kraven the Hunter, beloved by comic book fans but offensively unrepresented in live-action before this J.C. Chandor-led project entered production.

Not much is known in terms of narrative, but Ariana DeBose, who was cast in the role of obscure Marvel villain Calypso, told Deadline that the film departs as much as possible from other Sony/Marvel films.

"It's exciting to be a part of something that feels like it's taking a step in a different direction. I feel like they're just allowing this to live in whatever world it needs to live in, which is kind of cool," DeBose said.

This is certainly great news, but fans still don't want to leave the 'Morbius' story alone, blaming Sony for poor creative choices and profiting from the success of the MCU, by leading unsuspecting moviegoers to believe that the two universes are somehow connected.

In addition to Taylor-Johnson and DeBose, 'Craven the Hunter' also stars Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola and Russell Crowe, so get prepared for the film to hit theaters on January 13, 2023.
