Andor Star is Actually Happy That Show Ends So Soon
Fans, however, are depressed with their beloved character's story ending so soon.
Andor, a limited television series set in the Star Wars universe, released its first season in September 2022 and was immediately met with overwhelming fan and critical success, earning a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 74 out of 100 on Metacritic.
The story follows the life of Cassian Andor as he joins the Rebel Alliance in their fight against the despotic Galactic Empire, and serves as a prequel to both the 2016 spinoff film Rogue One (which also featured the character's first onscreen appearance) and the original 1977 Star Wars: A New Hope.
With the show's second and final season now underway, star Diego Luna shared his thoughts on the matter in an interview with Variety.
Although he was shocked when he was asked to reprise his role for the series, he later admitted that such a long format is perfect to go deep into the character and show the viewer who he is and why he makes the choices he does.
After the show ends, he plans to take some time off to recover from his appearance in the Star Wars universe, due to the pressure that comes with being part of such a huge franchise.
"This is the last season for "Andor" [...] It is just a two-season show, which is really important for my mental health. But knowing this is the end, I want to enjoy it and get the best out of this experience," he said.
Fans are understandably upset by Diego's decision to step away from possible future Star Wars projects in the near future, but in a bittersweet way.
They praise him for his contribution to their favorite universe, as well as his acting talent in general, and are eagerly anticipating the final season of the show.
"I'm sad. It was/is a great show. Not sure how they wrap it up with only one more season. I know we know what happens but getting there is fascinating. I wish him well," Reddit user carolineecouture said.
Andor season 2 is currently being filmed in London, with a release date to be announced.
