Andor Season 2 Update Opens Way For More Rogue One Characters
The show's creator just revealed how closely Andor's final season will be tied to Rogue One.
Even though there is still quite some time left until the second season of the Star Wars: Andor TV series is released, more and more details about it are being revealed from time to time.
And the latest update has just made the possibility of more characters from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story appearing in the series even more real.
In a recent interview, series' creator Tony Gilroy revealed that the final three episodes of the second (and sadly, now definitely final) season will cover "the last three days before Rogue One."
Fans have long speculated that some of the characters from the movie, aside from the titular rebel agent Cassian Andor, portrayed by Diego Luna, might eventually appear in the series.
Now that a direct tie-in to the events of Rogue One has been confirmed, the chances have increased significantly.
First, K-2SO, a reprogrammed Imperial Droid played by Alan Tudyk, has already been confirmed for next season.
Fans are eagerly anticipating his appearance, as K-2SO was one of the most popular characters in the movie, and seeing the beginning of his relationship with Cassian would undoubtedly be great.
As for the unconfirmed characters, the one with the highest chance of appearing is Orson Krennic, portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn.
The Director of Advanced Weapons Research is also a member of the Imperial Security Bureau, which is an important part of the show's plot and is featured in the Dedra Meero storyline.
Mads Mikkelsen 's Galen Erso, the most important (if reluctant) member of the Death Star project, was at the center of the first half of the Rogue One story, so it is likely that he will also appear in the series.
And that would be great, as Mikkelsen's acting talent, which was criminally underutilized in the film, would add a lot to an already great series.
Finally, Galen's daughter Jyn, played by Felicity Jones, who was the main character in Rogue One, could also make an appearance.
Although Jones has stated that she is not involved in the series, it is too early to completely rule out the possibility.
After all, Lars Mikkelsen (yes, he is Mads' brother), who portrayed Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels, also denied his involvement with the Ahsoka TV series until the official confirmation at Star Wars Celebration.
Season 2 of Andor will be released in August 2024.
