Summary:

  • The newly-released documentary follows the fall of the controversial dating agency that arranged married people’s adulteries.
  • It is now holding the first place in Netflix ’s chart, topping Baby Reindeer.
  • It’s a must-watch for the fans of scandalous stories and, in particular, Tinder Swindler, the biggest true-crime hit of 2022.

Netflix’s hyped black dramedy had reigned supreme in the platform’s global top since it was released on April 11. Baby Reindeer, following the comedian Richard Gadd's real-life experience of being stalked and sexually assaulted in his twenties, has already become one of the loudest streaming hits of 2024, gaining the strongest viewership.

Surprisingly, it has just been topped by another Netflix’s series, a documentary one, also following the shocking real-life controversies that attracted the attention of millions of curious viewers around the world. It also proved people's interest in scandalous stories.

The plot of the new docuseries blends elements of true crime and drama, as it focuses on a data breach that ruined numerous families and personal fates. It all started with a rare dating service, launched for married people in their search of adulteries.

Yes, you heard right, titled The Ashley Madison Agency, it was made for seeking lovers and was so successful that it earned the base of 37 million users in 40 countries by 2015. However, the happy life of its creators and clients ended like thunder from a clear sky.

When it was hacked by a group known as The Impact Team, the Internet saw the personal information of all these millions of the infidel people, and their lives changed in an instant. The career of the service’s staff was obviously also thrown in the trash.

Thus, by presenting the evidence of Ashley Madison’s former employees and users, Netflix’s doc explores the topics of the dating sites, love and, of course, lies. These issues are of much interest for all, so it’s now clear why it’s such a hit nowadays.

The three-episode series’ intriguing title, Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal, already bites us to give it a try and to learn some dirty stories about infidelity and making money on people’s lies.

You’ll definitely like it if you’re a fan of Netflix’s documentary that received much hype back in 2022, Tinder Swindler. It also focused on frauds and deception, but used not by millions of people, but by one particular con artist, the notorious Simon Leviev.

Check out Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal, as it’s already available for streaming on Netflix.
