American Horror Story: Delicate Further Proves Ryan Murphy's Pregnancy Obsession, And It's Very Freaky
Many women would agree that there’s nothing more terrifying.
As the new season of the popular TV show American Horror Story approaches, many fans will be revisiting their favorite stories. The unique storytelling style that Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have chosen for the show allows for each season to be viewed as a completely separate story, so it's easy not to notice the recurring patterns throughout the seasons.
However, if you were to binge-watch the show, you would notice a rather interesting recurring theme that never left the center of the plot. Many fans had noticed it before, but with American Horror Story: Delicate made it even more obvious and obvious.
Now that the trailer has dropped, fans are left wondering what Ryan Murphy's deal is with pregnancy.
Remember Vivienne from Murder House? Grace in Asylum? The Countess with Bartholomew in Hotel? The list goes on. Many characters' stories revolve around either the state of pregnancy or the topic of childbirth and newborns.
And while many young women would agree that there's nothing scarier than getting pregnant, seeing this perspective from a famous Hollywood showrunner is unexpected, to say the least.
While some fans believe the recurring theme of reproduction comes from Murphy's inspiration with the classic horror film Rosemary's Baby, others don't see it that way. It would be a bit of a stretch to say that one theme was influenced by one particular movie throughout the show's 12 seasons.
Some viewers tend to think that pregnancy plays such an important role in every horror story the show has produced so far because it is the counterpart to death as the beginning of life. It's not an uncommon metaphor for the genre, and Murphy wouldn't be the first to use it.
Whether you prefer a more realistic or metaphorical approach to the subject, you may find more answers in the upcoming American Horror Story: Delicate premiere.
Due to the ongoing writers' and actors' strike, production on the second part of the season has been delayed, but the first part will premiere on FX on September 20.
