All the Movies and TV Shows Coming to Netflix This Week (February 12-18)

Summary

The 58th Super Bowl is over. And what does that mean? It means that after one of the most watched yearly spectacles for the US viewers, television is actively offering them hyped-up novelties. We are in for a real pop culture treat, folks.

Netflix subscribers will be especially pleased. We hope this week's binge-watch list is not too overwhelming, dear friends, as the streaming service's library is being replenished with 27 new series and movies this week alone.

A Little Bit About the Upcoming Premieres

As we can see from the list, this week is unlikely to disappoint anyone, as each day is peppered with a ton of intriguing projects, both acquired and original. We suggest you pay special attention to a few of them.

Blueback — a gripping Australian environmental drama about the friendship between a wild blue grouper and a girl fighting to save Australia's coral reefs.

Resident Alien — a sci-fi comedy, starring Alan Tudyk, which moved from Syfy to Netflix today. The series tells the story of an alien intent on destroying humanity who is left behind as a doctor in a small Colorado town. The show has an impressive 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wednesday, February 14 brings some highly anticipated projects:

Love is Blind — a new season of the fan-favorite reality show. The new Season 6 will bring together (but not in person) singles from Charlotte, North Carolina.

Players — a new romcom starring Gina Rodriguez, Damon Wayans Jr. and Tom Ellis. What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than with a romantic Netflix binge?

Fans of martial arts dramas, on the other hand, should check out two shows.

House of Ninjas — created by Dave Boyle, about one of the last ninja clans in Japan.

The other is Warrior — a show that has come a long way from Cinemax to HBO Max and now, after being canceled, to Netflix. Based on the writings of Bruce Lee, the series follows Ah Sahm, a Chinese martial artist who travels to 1870s San Francisco in search of his sister. The series cleverly combines elements of period drama, martial arts, western, mystery, and even a police procedural. Netflix users are sure to like the show, so there is a chance that the streaming service will be able to renew the show for a new season.

There's Less Positive News, However

Unfortunately, the Netflix library rotation can't be complete without some projects leaving the service. There are plenty of great movies and shows on the platform that are definitely worth checking out while they're still available to Netflix subscribers.

This Is the Life — a 2008 documentary, produced by one of today's most relevant auteurs, Ava DuVernay, which left Netflix on Monday. The film chronicles the heyday of the West Coast hip-hop scene in the '90s, specifically through the open mic nights at The Good Life Health Food Center that spawned bands like Jurassic 5 and Freestyle Fellowship. Alas, it remains to be seen if this documentary will find a new home at all.

On February 13, two very dark projects will leave the service:

Christine — a 2016 psychological thriller Rebecca Hall, based on the real-life tragic events surrounding news reporter Christine Chubbuck.

Sleepless Society: Insomnia — a Thai mystery thriller about an aspiring model haunted by nightmares involving her mother.

Thursday, February 15 is particularly noteworthy, as three iconic movies will no longer be available on that day: 2000's Chicken Run, 2011's Real Steel, and 2012's Prometheus. Additionally, two days later, on February 17, Pahuna: The Little Visitors, a beautiful mystery drama about three children who must flee their home village in Nepal to be reunited with their parents.
