All Bridgerton Siblings Ranked From Least To Most Book Accurate So Far
It’s a relief to see some of them changed.
When the news broke that Shondaland would be adapting Julia Quinn's Bridgerton book series for Netflix, fans of the novels went crazy. And rightly so, as the production team has managed to capture the essence of the book's romance and transfer it perfectly to the screen.
Although the main principle of the show is the same as that of the book series, with each season focusing on one of the eight Bridgerton siblings, there were some changes the team had to make.
The main criticism against Julia Quinn’s approach to the stories lies in the repetitiveness of the tropes that she used. While the lovers of the romance genre found themselves enjoying the novels, Shondaland’s team didn’t risk it and went for some bold moves to make sure the viewers would always be surprised.
Some characters, for example, were given more screen time, while others were dropped altogether. Judging by the success of the first two seasons, that worked out perfectly fine. Instead of the outdated 2000s look at regency, the viewers got to experience the modernized approach with some very juicy drama still in place.
Even the main characters weren't left untouched, as the writing team had to change their personalities to better fit the narrative.
Here are all 8 Bridgerton siblings, ranked from least book accurate to most similar to their book counterparts so far.
8. Francesca Bridgerton
It's very hard to tell what kind of personality Francesca has when she's not on screen most of the time. That isn’t the fail of Bridgerton writers, but the quirk of the production, which now has to be fixed.
Unfortunately, the previous actress who held the role, Ruby Stokes, had a conflict in her schedule. Hopefully, with the recent recasting of her to Hannah Dodd, we'll hear more from Bridgerton's third daughter, but for now, she's at the bottom of the list.
7. Benedict Bridgerton
In Julia Quinn's books, he's described as Daphne's most protective brother, which makes him very toxic. In the show, however, he has been given a sweet and loving personality, which is more in line with the book's Colin.
What interests the majority of the viewers now, is how this will affect his own season when the time comes, however, if there is one thing that Brisgerton fans have learned, is that there is no way to predict Shonda Rhimes’ way of thinking.
6. Eloise Bridgerton
Let us just say that the book's Eloise would probably dislike the show quite a bit, and vice versa. Even though they gave her an enhanced persona, she matches the book Hyacinth much more than anyone else so far.
Still, she has time to grow and somehow change to fit her own story better. After all, it is predicted by the majority of the fans, that her season won’t be earlier than season 5.
5 & 4. Gregory Bridgerton and Hyacinth Bridgerton
At this point in the show, it's just too hard to separate them, so they come together in this rating too. They match their children's versions of descriptions quite well and even perfectly portray the nature of the younger siblings' constant arguing. This is the best viewers can ask for until they both grow up and get their own stories.
3. Anthony Bridgerton
While most of the characters are heightened versions of their book selves, Anthony might be the one who gets toned down a bit. And that's a good thing, considering that he's already perceived as rather straightforward and unpleasant in season 1 and the beginning of season 2.
What the writers did keep is the complexity of his role as a viscount, and all the fears that he experiences after the traumatic events of his father’s death. And that’s exactly what makes his character so interesting to watch.
2. Daphne Bridgerton
The only difference that one can recall between the book’s version of the Daphne and the show’s one, is that originally she wasn’t anywhere near the status of a diamond.
In fact, in the books, Daphne was more sweet and much more down-to-earth, suffering from men seeing her as a good friend and nothing more. However, in motives and actions, her story wasn't that different, so the show did a very good job of portraying her.
1. Colin Bridgerton
So far, the main character of the upcoming season looks and acts a lot like his book description. Although Shondaland has made some changes to his story, we can see his sweet and charming nature, quick mind, and passion for traveling.
Surely everything else, including the sudden and overwhelming realization of his feelings for his best friend, Penelope Featherington, will follow in season 3, it's just a matter of time.
If you are interested in seeing how the characters might change and what their stories might look like moving forward in the Bridgerton universe, stay tuned for a release date for season 3. Until then, you can always go back and rewatch season 1 and season 2, both of which are available on Netflix.
