All Bridgerton Hints Pointing on Benedict, Eloise, and Francesca as Season 4 Leads
Shondaland keeps the intrigue going.
Even though Penelope and Colin's season has just ended, viewers are already looking forward to what comes next. Or who comes next, to be more precise. With each passing season, there are fewer and fewer Bridgertons left to be the next love interest, and yet the competition is still going strong.
Three of the oldest Bridgerton siblings whose stories have not yet been adapted for the season, Benedict, Eloise and Francesca, have all had quite the emotional journey in season 3. And yet, none of them seem more ready for their love story to begin than the others.
While fans of the show are deeply confused, those familiar with Julia Quinn’s novel series are already on the hunt for clues and hints that could lead them to the answer. Here’s everything we could find out for each of the siblings.
Francesca Bridgerton
Played by Hannah Dodd, Francesca was reintroduced to the show in season 3 and quickly became a fan favorite. Her introverted personality made her a very relatable addition to the bold Bridgerton family, and her match with John Stirling, Earl of Kilmartin, ended in a happy marriage of love.
It is clear that Francesca's story will be very different from the rest of her siblings, as her happiness with her husband is only the beginning of a very long road ahead. A good half of her story takes place in Scotland, where she and John will settle after their marriage. But that's not the only clue that Francesca might be next.
In a rather divisive decision, Bridgerton has introduced another love interest of Francesca's. In Julia Quinn's novel When He Was Wicked, she ends up with John's brother, Michael Stirling. In the first major change to the books, Bridgerton introduced the genderbent version of Michael in season 3.
Michaela Bridgerton, portrayed by Masali Baduza, will be extremely important to the story, so many fans have reason to believe that Bridgerton wouldn't need to introduce her so early if it wasn't for Francesca's turn to go next.
Eloise Bridgerton
Similarly, Eloise's book-accurate love interest, Sir Philip Crane, was introduced in the very first season. He took Marina Thompson to the country to raise her and his brother's children, and made a brief appearance in season 2, where he met Colin Bridgerton. However, he was not introduced to Eloise and did not return for season 3.
The lack of a formal introduction doesn't worry Philoise fans too much, since in the novel To Sir Phillip, With Love, Eloise and Phillip start out as accidental pen pals. Since Eloise will be traveling to Scotland with her sister, she will have much more time to write letters, and perhaps Sir Phillip Crane will end up as one of the recipients.
Eloise's mental struggles and an overwhelming sense of loneliness are other clues that she may be the next Bridgerton lead. Considering that her two brothers, Anthony and Colin, began their seasons with similar mindsets, it seems to be the unbreakable curse or a trend the writers decided to keep.
As Bridgerton fans used to joke, the Bridgertons need to have their hearts broken in order to find true love, and Eloise has definitely had her share of heartbreak. Even if said heartbreak wasn't romantic.
Benedict Bridgerton
The person who has taken on the role of heartbreaker this season is Benedict Bridgerton. After experiencing all the joys of life with Lady Tilley Arnold and her theater-loving friend with benefits Paul, Benedict ended up breaking her heart by rejecting the idea of their relationship becoming anything more serious than a simple fling.
Benedict's book was the one the writers decided to skip to move forward with Colin and Penelope's story. An Offer from a Gentleman is the third book in the series after Daphne's and Anthony's, so it is only logical to give him the spotlight next.
Now more than ever, Benedict needs something to fill his heart (and his free time), and finding his one true love may be just the thing. Losing hope in art and escaping from any commitment, he is left to wonder what else life has to offer, and viewers believe this is the perfect starting point for him to meet his love interest.
The biggest clue of all, however, is a little exchange between Benedict and Eloise before she leaves for Scotland. As she casually mentions the masked ball, Benedict confirms his attendance. Since this is exactly how he meets the mysterious Lady in Silver in his novel, this is a strong signal to all fans.
However, since the actress hasn't been cast yet, the novel has a two-year time jump, and there's no official confirmation about either of the siblings, fans are trying not to get their hopes up only to have their hearts broken again.
No matter who the next Bridgerton sibling will be, and in what order, fans of the show expect all three to get their happy endings. Until there are any updates from Shondaland or Netflix, you can always binge-watch the first three seasons on Netflix.
