The world of Game of Thrones is brutal and unforgiving, but let’s say you end up there; which of the Seven Kingdoms should you choose to live in most comfort?

7. Kingdom of The North

Though it has vast territories and a plethora of resources, The North has the toughest living conditions. Its harsh climate is somewhat tolerable during the Summer, but the Winter hits this region especially hard, and starvation and cold deaths become very common. The North is the least comfortable kingdom to live in.

6. Kingdom of Dorne

Dorne is not the most welcoming region in terms of its climate, and the issue is just the opposite to The North: it’s incredibly hot. The majority of Dorne is covered in desert and mountains, making it pretty defensible, but the lack of fertile lands makes life hard. Still, passing the Winter is the easiest here, so we rank Dorne higher.

5. Kingdom of The Stormlands

A relatively small kingdom, The Stormlands is only great for two things: defending it and leaving it behind. The weather here is as nasty as it gets with constant storms, and its rocky terrain makes farming a ridiculous idea. Not too hot or too cold, The Stormlands stays true to its name and makes one’s life quite insufferable, too.

4. Kingdom of The Iron Islands

Let’s get one thing out of our way: The Iron Islands suck tremendously and are probably the worst place to live in Westeros. However, this kingdom also includes the Riverlands, and that’s quite a decent place to settle down thanks to its climate. However, the Riverlands is right in the center of the map and is barely defensible.

3. Kingdom of Mountain and Vale

Now we’re getting to the actually good places! The Vale’s lands are very fertile, and the kingdom has the best natural defenses in the form of the sky-high mountains surrounding it. Unfortunately, the mountain tribes are near-impossible to pacify, and these guys can shorten your life significantly if you happen to settle nearby.

2. Kingdom of The Rock

Also known as The Westerlands, this kingdom ranks higher than the Vale on our list thanks to sharing most of its pros but having fewer cons. The Rock is more civilized with no tribes terrorizing it, and it’s one of the richest regions in Westeros. It’s also highly defensible and a pain to capture, so it has all the advantages you may need.

1. Kingdom of The Reach

The Reach lacks The Westerlands’ natural defenses but surpasses it in everything else. With its mild climate, incredibly fertile lands, and civilized population, this kingdom is the richest and most prosperous. If war doesn’t come its way, it’s the most comfortable region to live in — and if war comes, The Reach has enough resources to hire the best mercenary armies in the world, let alone in Westeros.
