It seems that the show's most enigmatic character to date was merely a throwaway villain, and it robbed fans of a great reveal.

Even without the introduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the Ahsoka TV series had an impressive roster of villains, from Jedi-turned-mercenary Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati to one of the last surviving Nightsisters, Morgan Elsbeth.

But arguably the most enigmatic of all was Marrok, a former Imperial Inquisitor who hides his face under a helmet, as fans have developed several theories as to who he might actually be.

Some believed Marrok was just another Inquisitor, others thought he might be the Eighth Brother who had already met Ahsoka on Malachor and presumably died as a result, but the most bizarre claim was that Marrok was actually Ezra Bridger, corrupted by the Dark Side.

With so many possible explanations, fans couldn't wait for the show to finally reveal the truth, but it seems that the latest episode of Ahsoka will only bring them disappointment.

In the just-released episode 4, Marrok duels with Ahsoka while Shin Hati battles Sabine Wren in a crimson forest on the planet Seatos.

The intense confrontation ends when the Jedi, in classic samurai movie fashion, delivers a fatal blow to the Inquisitor, slicing through Marrok's torso and killing him instantly.

This seemingly concludes the villain's storyline in the series, proving those fans who believed he was just a throwaway villain with no real backstory, and ending the debate that had been going on since the first episodes of the series.

However, one detail may provide at least some explanation as to who Marrok actually was.

Before falling to the ground, Marrok's body withers and emits a distinctive green fume, which bears a striking resemblance to the death of Darth Maul's brother, Savage Opress, in the Clone Wars TV series.

When Savage was struck down by Darth Sidious, his body emitted a very similar green fume as the Nightsister magic that enhanced him was dispelled, returning his muscular body to its former slender state.

The fact that Morgan Elsbeth is also a Nightsister and can use her people's sorcery makes it possible that Marrok was a Nightbrother (the title given to male members of Dathomirian society) as well, or was simply enhanced by the witch as a reward for his service.

Furthermore, considering that the Nightsisters' magic can raise the dead, we may see Marrok again, though most likely as a mindless zombie.

Did you expect Marrok to be more than a disappointing throwaway villain?
