Ahsoka Episode 5 Makes Clone Wars Darker Than It Ever Was
The latest episode of Ahsoka presented an alternate view of the events of the animated series, making it much darker and even tragic.
Ahsoka TV series’ most recent episode provided a heartfelt trip down memory lane for both the character and fans of The Clone Wars series.
After Ahsoka meets her master, Anakin Skywalker, once again brilliantly portrayed by Hayden Christensen, in what appears to be the World Between Worlds, he explains that he's there to complete her training and takes his former Padawan through her past battles.
We see young Ahsoka, played by Ariana Greenblatt, on one of her first missions with Anakin, which obviously takes place in the first season of the animated series, and then we see the Siege of Mandalore, which took place in the final season of the series, from a live-action perspective.
With the animated show's signature bright visual style taken away and the overall dark and even tragic nature of the scenes, some fans of The Clone Wars suddenly realized something that had been obscured throughout the show's seven-season run.
Seeing what is essentially a child (as Greenblatt is only 16 years old) fighting on the front lines of the war brings a whole new perspective to the animated series, and immediately makes it feel less kid-friendly and uplifting than it once did.
The episode also reminds us that even at such a young age, Ahsoka has already been given enormous responsibility, commanding clone troopers, many of whom became her friends, and often leading them to their deaths.
Of course, the animated series also had its share of dark and depressing moments, such as when Ahsoka was falsely accused of being responsible for the attack on the Jedi Temple, which led to her leaving the Order, even though she was eventually proven innocent.
You could also say that the entire second half of the show's final season was one hardship after another for her, as Ahsoka led the assault on Mandalore, barely won the battle against Darth Maul, and then survived Order 66.
However, fans say that seeing a child instead of an animated model makes all the difference, and Ariana Greenblatt did a great job of conveying the character's fears, doubts, and insecurities, making the sequence even more effective.
Many admit that even though it wasn't exactly a secret during the animated series, watching The Clone Wars now will never feel the same.
Ahsoka episode 6 will premiere on September 19, 2023.
