Ahsoka Alarmingly Heading For a Rushed and Disappointing Finale
With only one episode left, there are too many loose ends, which could be a disaster if the show is not renewed for season 2.
Episode 7 of the Ahsoka TV series is finally here, and with only one episode to go, we will soon see the end of the titular Jedi's journey to stop Grand Admiral Thrawn.
The episode was quite action-packed and featured a number of great scenes, from Ahsoka escaping pursuit through the field of Purrgil bones surrounding the planet Peridea, in a clear homage to a similar sequence in Attack of the Clones, to Sabine and Ezra fighting Shin Hati.
And yet, despite so much on-screen action, the overall story barely moved forward, and considering that the next episode will be the series finale, it highlights a huge potential problem for Ahsoka.
Unless the series is renewed for a second season, or the story is continued in a future feature film, there are too many unresolved storylines, and it is almost impossible to wrap them up in a satisfying way in a single episode.
We have yet to see Thrawn's mysterious plan in action, as he has spent the last two episodes merely preparing to leave the distant planet.
The stories of Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati also remain unresolved, and while the latter may appear in the next season or in a movie, the situation with Baylan is quite different.
If he doesn't meet his end in the next episode, the rogue Jedi will most likely simply disappear from the story or die offscreen, considering that Ray Stevenson, who plays him, tragically passed away in May 2023.
Episode 7 also hinted that the New Republic might face a full-scale confrontation with Thrawn's forces, as Chancellor Mon Mothma finally recognized the looming threat.
In addition, our heroes have to find their way back from a distant galaxy, the Nightsisters have to be dealt with, and there have been indications that something incredibly dangerous and powerful is hidden on the planet, possibly threatening both heroes and villains.
With all that in mind, there are at least seven different storylines that need to be wrapped up, and even if the final episode is an hour long, it probably won't be enough to tie everything up nicely.
Unless the series ends on a cliffhanger, fans may be in for a disappointing and rushed finale that will take a terrible toll on what has been a great series overall.
Ahsoka episode 8 will be released on October 3, 2023.
