The critically acclaimed movie adaptation of Silent Hill has become a classic in the horror genre thanks to the fans who loved both movies – Silent Hill and Silent Hill: Revelation.

In October 2022, fans of the series received good news: a new movie, Return to Silent Hill, directed by Christophe Gans (who also directed the first movie), will be an adaptation of Silent Hill 2 game.

But until recently, little was known about the plot, release date, or cast. We're here to shed some light on the details.

It should be noted that the movie will be quite different from the original.

The new adaptation will focus on the story of James Sunderland, who in the game comes to Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his deceased wife, while in the movie James travels to a spooky town in search of "lost love."

Besides, in the movie, Mary's last name is Crane, so she's not the wife of the protagonist. In addition, the movie will feature the still-unknown Jacob Crane, into whose creepy world the hero presumably fell.

Such a synopsis is very reminiscent of the first movie, where the otherworldly reality was not a protracted hallucination, but a manifestation of Alessa's abilities.

Also, the characters that we know from the second movie will do their best to dissuade James from searching for Mary.

The lead role will be played by Jeremy Irvine, known to many from films such as War Horse, It's About Time, Paradise Hills and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

This is not the first role in a horror movie for the actor. Many saw him teamed up with Daniel Radcliffe in the movie The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death.

It's likely that we won't see a new installment in the franchise until late 2024, but given that the film is being directed by the creator of the successful first film and the series' overall positive history, fans agree that Return to Silent Hill is worth the long wait.
