After Netflix's Bridgerton, Eloise in the Books is Lacking Big Time
A rare occasion where adaptation wins over the original.
As in every other fandom where books are adapted for the screen, Bridgerton fans are usually divided on which one is better.
However, it doesn't seem to be as much of a discussion as it could be, considering the fact that the showrunners stick pretty closely to the books' main storylines and try to make as few significant changes as possible.
To date, any changes Shondaland has made have been well-received by the fanbase.
Some say the adaptation has helped them learn more about the characters we didn't know so much about in the books, and warmed them up to the ones who seemed pretty boring.
Eloise would be one of those characters, and now viewers fear that she might follow in the footsteps of the book Eloise.
Quiz: Which Bridgerton Heroine Are You?
A possible marriage to Philip now seems so out of character for Eloise that the very idea disappoints fans. With all of her ambition and passion for women's rights, it would have been much more interesting to see her pursue them instead of being locked away in the country "enjoying" family life.
"I read the books after watching season 1 and couldn't reconcile the two Eloises. Show Eloise is a spitfire and the book Eloise was lacking for me. I had to think of them as completely different characters because they truly seem to be," Redditor atxgrackle said.
Eloise-Centric Season 4 Will Be Bridgerton's Dumbest Mistake
While some fans think there are ways to make Eloise and Philip's marriage work, it would also require another major change in his character, and that's the price not everyone is sure Shondaland is willing to pay.
What seems more likely to the audience here is for Eloise to enter the marriage of convenience to gain the "freedoms of marriage" and then slowly grow into acceptance.
Although she would still lose a large part of the character that fans have already fallen in love with, at least the door will be open for future learning and life outside the family.
To see how Eloise's story will continue, keep an eye out for Bridgerton Season 3 news and stay tuned for the official release date.
