After Meredith's Grey's Anatomy Exit, We Need Japril Spinoff in Boston ASAP
Grey's Anatomy fans have spoken loud and clear on their displeasure at the news Meredith Grey will be leaving at the end of the 19th season. But beyond that, they are now demanding a spinoff that they have been wanting for years: Japril in Boston.
The audience adored Jackson Avery and April Kepner.
Some even claimed that this relationship was more endearing than the primary pairing of Meredith Grey and Derek (McDreamy) Shepherd. But April was written out of the series following season 14, with the reason cited as the producers identifying a need to cut down on the large number of cast members.
April was said to have moved to Boston, after marrying Matthew Taylor. Jackson, after a series of adventures and short-term failed relationships, makes the trip to Boston himself, being written out in season 17.
Ellen Pompeo's Exit Left Grey's Anatomy Fans "So Done" With the Show
He travels there with his and April's daughter, Harriet, to see his mother who has been diagnosed with cancer. And fans were thrilled to see a newly separated from Matthew April and Jackson passionately kiss in an elevator, having rekindled their romance.
Ever since that glorious scene, Grey's fans have been dying for a spinoff featuring Japril in Boston. And they have absolutely noticed that Meredith Grey is moving to Boston, which in their minds, plants the perfect seed for this spinoff to actually happen.
It would allow the audience to continue on Japril's journey as they (ideally) fall back in love, and would also be able to include Meredith Grey, which means she would not be leaving screens for good.
Fans have also pointed out that much of the legwork in establishing a new series has already been done. Meredith Grey will be working on Alzheimer's research in Boston, and her funding for this research came from Jackson's Catherine Fox Foundation!
It seems too good to be true that there is already the basics of a cast of characters just sitting there who could form Grey's research team (remember all the doctors from Minnesota that came along in the 18th season?).
And as for storylines, Catherine's tumor growing and her refusal of treatment, along with her intention to tell no one of her decision has the potential to be a thrilling, heart-wrenching, and captivating tale that will spur development of all the principal characters.
Adding that the writers and producers are clearly already comfortable doing cross-overs between Boston and Seattle, given many of these have happened already, it seems alarmingly logical for the Japril in Boston spinoff to finally happen. As for whether it will or not, only time will tell…
