After Horizon, Check Out This Western With Tomatometer Twice As High
Star-studded, action-fueled, and criminally overlooked — enter one of the best Westerns movies of the 21st century.
For all its charm, the genre of Western doesn’t get too many movies… But when it does, those are likely to be brilliant. As with Taylor Sheridan ’s popular Yellowstone series and his former lead star Kevin Costner ’s Horizon movies, there are quite a few Western gems to uncover in this century alone, despite the age of cowboys having long ended.
You’ve likely come here after Horizon, craving more gunslinging action, and you’ve come to the right place. Enter your new favorite 21st-century Western movie.
Waiting for the Train in Great Company
Directed by James Mangold and written by Derek Haas is already enough for most people to tune in instantly, but if that’s not your case, get this: Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, Logan Lerman, Ben Foster, and many other stars played prominent roles in this movie. If that’s not star-studded enough for you, we don’t know what is.
The movie in question is 2007’s 3:10 to Yuma, and it proves that classic Western tales, no matter how mundane, can still be as great as they were a century ago. The film follows a small-time rancher who volunteers to escort a dangerous criminal to a train that would take him to the court. The problem is that the criminal doesn’t intend to be taken to trial, and the rancher has a hard time dealing with him and his crew.
3:10 to Yuma Received Great Scores
If you’re not convinced by the seemingly simple plot of the movie, rest assured that pretty much everyone loved it — and even critics and viewers had an agreement for once. On Rotten Tomatoes, 3:10 to Yuma boasts an 89% Critic Score and an 86% Audience Score, supported by a strong 7.6/10 on IMDb which is even harder to get.
Compared to Kevin Costner’s recent Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1, 3:10 to Yuma has its Tomatometer Score twice as high, 89% against 44%, though the Audience Score difference is almost negligible. So if you’ve been on a hunt for a great Western movie with modern visuals, definitely check it out and help Christian Bale deliver Russell Crowe to the authorities against all odds.
