A Truly Disastrous Breakup Harry Potter Films Want Us to Forget About
It's impossible to cram everything from the books when you try and bring the story to screens — but in Harry Potter's case, some really dramatic things were left out.
Don't ever ask a true Harry Potter fan what do they think the movies failed to deliver, because you are likely to get quite an extensive list of things that, let's be honest, do not necessarily fit the screens.
However, one thing was surely important enough to be included in the movies, because it's literally about one of the only two girlfriends Harry has had — Cho Chang.
In Order of the Phoenix, the two finally make it official after sharing a kiss under a mistletoe... and things end as quickly as they began, but with little to no explanation. The only thing we know is that the movies basically framed Cho for something that her friend Marietta actually did — revealing the secret of Dumbledore's Army to evil Professor Umbridge.
In Half-Blood Prince, Harry is already obsessed with Ginny, even though his breakup with Cho was a lot more dramatic in the books than the movies ever cared to show. The books had them clashing over Marietta's move, and it was their final fight as a couple. Ironically, fans believe that the books have actually put it in a very realistic way for a teenage drama.
"I agree the ending of their relationship was right. Cho was looking for comfort in her grief for Cedric and Harry was looking to move on from it. The argument about Marietta just seemed to accelerate the end," Redditor magecal said.
The movies, however, simply provide absolutely no background, and not even give Harry and Cho the chance to have their final conversation. In fact, movie fans are not overly fond of neither romantic storylines, with Harry and Cho being swiped under the rug, and Harry and Ginny simply "written lazily" (but here's where the never-ending debate on Bonnie Wright's acting abilities also step in).
With Warner Bros. recently getting new leadership (and new goals), chances are we will be getting some new Harry Potter content — maybe even a reboot. If the executives do decide to move forward with the reboot, like some fans want them to, maybe they will treat Harry's romantic life with a little bit more attention.
