A Single Change Would Transform The Cursed Child Trainwreck into a Masterpiece
Now the eighth story in the Harry Potter series, The Cursed Child may have received critical acclaim amongst reviewers. However, much of the HP fandom was less than impressed with the continuing story co-written by J. K. Rowling.
Tampering with the events of the original books is a bold endeavor for the fans, which did not necessarily succeed. Of course, this has not stopped admirers of the franchise from promoting their own opinions on what the play should have been about. One such fan may have come up with a plot which could have transformed TCC into its very own masterpiece.
Fans on the Reddit forum r/harrypotter, discussed their own ideas on 'If you wrote cursed child, what would you change?' Many Redditors debated a number of concepts around what the narrative for the script could have been instead.
One user certainly captured the theme of the thread best, suggesting they would have kept the title of The Cursed Child, but make it about Tom Riddle and his journey to becoming Lord Voldemort.
Other fans thoroughly enjoyed this interpretation of what the production could have written. Stating how the idea not only made sense but could have produced a much better story by far.
Making TCC focused on the life of Lord Voldemort is certainly a winning idea. Fans liked the 'behind the story' preview that the play offered of the original HP story. However, ultimately many found the narrative stuck in rehashed storylines, and to some, it was more like a work of fan fiction than an original story from the writer.
Rather than interfere with already established characters and events within the story, TCC could have been a deeper look into one of the series' most interesting but less discussed characters.
One Golden Trio Member Could Fit Perfectly in Slytherin, And It's Not Harry Potter
A benefit of featuring the story around Voldemort is that little is told from his perspective within the books. Yet his backstory is just as interesting. Tom Riddle, as he was originally known, had a beginning not too dissimilar from Harry's. Starting in a muggle orphanage he developed magical abilities without knowing he was a wizard until Dumbledore arrived to invite him to Hogwarts. He excelled quickly as a student, however, the darker side of his personality never left him. During his time in school, he located and opened the Chamber of Secrets, murdered his muggle-born family, and discovered the existence of Horcruxes. Creating his first few towards the end of his student years.
We Love Hagrid, but Let's Be Real: He Was a Hot Mess in Harry Potter
There is clearly a wealth of backstory that could have been included in a prequel to Lord Voldemort's rising. Not only making it the perfect basis for what The Cursed Child could have become, but allowing the story to include some of the fan's favorite characters and locations once again. Instead of interfering with the already concluded series of Harry Potter, this new story could have enriched it further. With a more in-depth re-telling of the book's most notorious villain, and the events which made him into Lord Voldemort.
