A Quick Guide Into Why Mayfair Witches Fans Are So Angry With AMC
It looks like AMC's Immortal Universe is dead on arrival.
Mayfair Witches is another AMC show from Ann Rice's universe, joining Interview with the Vampire in the franchise. Starring Alexandra Daddario, the show focuses on a young surgeon who begins to suspect that she's killing people with her mind.
Many people have been waiting for the Mayfair Witches to be adapted for decades, so you might expect to see joy and celebration in the fandom now that the show is out. However, the show seems to be causing more frustration than satisfaction at the moment.
"Who wrote the script/cast [for] Mayfair Witches? Because they owe me, everyone who has ever read the books, and Anne Rice and her family a huge apology. Did any of you even read the books?" Twitter user allisonking07 wondered.
One of the worst changes in the TV series, according to fans, is the fact that AMC apparently decided to get rid of Michael Curry, one of the main protagonists in the book trilogy. Instead of him, Rowan Fielding is now the main character.
"This show is pathetic especially what they've done to Rowan's character. It's like a completely different story, very few similarities to the books besides the names of the characters," Twitter user DougRees17
Besides, the casting of Lasher — another main character in the show — also seems to be off, with fans arguing that he should "give off elegant, otherworldly vibes" while also looking 25. Jack Huston, however, "is not even close in physical description and he's 40 and looks it", as put by Twitter user RLaprin.
Mayfair Witches is only two episodes into the story, so there is still a chance for the show to somehow make it up to the fans despite the lukewarm initial response. Episode 3 will premiere on January 22nd.
