Give it a try if you’re a fan of Heartbreak High and Never Have I Ever!

Netflix is notorious for its perfect teen shows, and we bet you’ve seen at least one of them, probably Sex Education, Ginny & Georgia or Heartstopper. However, such series get even more interesting when they’re adapted from popular novels, with fans of the book ardently comparing the adaptation with their favorite nostalgic YA book.

The new underdog show titled Geek Girl is also based on a novel, and it does full justice to its best-selling original. It is now receiving so much hype that it’s holding the first place in Netflix’s global chart, topping Netflix’s bigger projects, including Bridgerton.

What Is Geek Girl About?

The show’s plot revolves around Harriet, an awkward 16-year-old geek, whose life is complicated by bullying and the feeling of not belonging to society. She struggles a lot to make it through coming of age, luckily, her life is about to be drastically changed.

During her field trip to London Fashion Week, Harriet is scouted by a modeling agency that invites her to be their newcomer, and she decides not to lose this opportunity.

This premise seems to be quite generic and usual for teen dramas about a loser who turns into a popular party animal. However, it’s not as simple as it may seem, and its book source, Holly Smale’s 2013 readworthy novel, offers a number of great turns.

Is Geek Girl Worth Watching?

It appears to be a must-watch for those who enjoy shows that blend romance, drama and comedy elements and demonstrate perfectly-written character development. These include Heartbreak High, Never Have I Ever and, of course, Gossip Girl.

While the main key to the series’ success is its script, it’s also added by the stellar performance of its lead, Emily Carey. Her name can be familiar to you if you’re a fan of HBO’s House of the Dragon, as the actress portrayed young Alicent Hightower there.

Netflix’s new banger show loses absolutely none of the original’s charm. It has it all: brilliant acting performances, lively atmosphere and fresh vision for internationally essential troubles of growing up.

It has already gained an audience score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, so don’t miss this 10-episode hit series that is available for streaming on Netflix.
