The show is a commentary on the pressures of modern education. But it's also hilarious, thanks in part to the satire and in part to the immense optimism of the protagonist.

2. The Bear

Funny and fantastic! A Michelin-starred chef returns to his hometown to take over his late brother's sandwich shop.

Accustomed to a well-run kitchen and competent staff, the chaos and lack of motivation he finds is hilarious. There's no firm date for Season 3, but it's expected to air in June 2024.

3. Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Renewed for: Season 2

Watch on: Disney+

A coming-of-age fantasy, this show benefits from the quality of the book series it's based on. But take nothing away from the production team. The characters, sets, dialog, and plots are excellent.

Percy Jackson is likable and there's something intriguing about mythical creatures we've always known about but don't necessarily know much about.

4. Tracker

Justin Hartley stars as Colter Shaw, a lone wolf hero with exceptional tracking skills.

The character demands swagger - and Hartley delivers it in spades. If you liked the Jack Reacher books but were disappointed with how he was translated to the screen, this is the remedy.

Season 2 is scheduled for release in March 2025.

5. Bargain Block

Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas flip houses in Detroit and document the process. It sounds like a pretty average show - and in many ways it is.

What sets it apart is its commitment to creating unique homes from rundown properties using low-cost methods and materials. Viewers connect with the couple and are truly inspired by them.

The new season will air in the fall of 2024.

6. Hijack

Apple TV's airborne thriller returns. In the first season, Idris Elba's Sam Nelson tried to negotiate with the hijackers to ensure a safe return to London.

7. The Gilded Age

This period drama from Julian Fellowes is not the twee affair you might expect.

Set in the Gilded Age of 1880s New York, the series follows Bertha Russell as she navigates life in the booming city amid the conflict between old money and new.

It also tackles the inequality of the time and has been praised for its costumes and lead performances.

Be prepared for a long wait, though. It's not expected to air until the summer of 2025.

8. Animal Control

Set in an animal control unit in Seattle, the show shines a light on how difficult it is to understand and deal with humans compared to animals.

It's relatable and full of good humor.

The show is expected to hit our screens early next year.

9. The Young and the Restless

This long-running daytime soap is in its sixth decade and shows no signs of slowing down. Further series have been announced, taking it through 2028, and it continues to draw 3.5 million viewers daily.

Launched in 1973 with the Brooks and Foster families at opposite ends of the wealth spectrum, it has expanded and has the ups and downs you'd expect from a soap.
