No House or Grey's Anatomy.

On May 21, the last episode of The Good Doctor premiered — the show ended after seven seasons.

We understand your medical drama itch, which was left by the void after the end of the show with Freddie Highmore, so we have collected not very well-known, but high quality dramas about doctors.

1. Nip/Tuck, 2003-2010

Sean and Christian share a common business — they are both successful plastic surgeons. The two men fulfill the craziest wishes of their clients; operations in their private clinic cost enormous amounts of money and are scheduled months in advance. Women are willing to do anything to become patients of Christian and Sean.

Christian is happy to take advantage of this and endlessly starts short affairs with his clients. Sean has a different view: he feels more responsible for his patients and is willing to help those who really need it for free. Despite these differences, Sean and Christian work together and cannot imagine life without their friendship.

2. This Is Going to Hurt, 2022

Adam is an obstetrics and gynecology resident in a London hospital. There is a constant shortage of staff, the equipment is outdated, and the flow of patients is enormous. One day Adam makes a medical mistake and cannot stop blaming himself, isolating from friends and loved ones.

Resident Shruti, who is preparing for her final exams and cannot stand the hardships of the hospital, also goes through her own difficult journey in the department.

This Is Going to Hurt is adapted from Adam Kay's book about his own life. Before becoming an author and screenwriter, Kay worked as an obstetrician and gynecologist and left the profession after his patient lost her child.

3. Harrow, 2018-2021

Daniel Harrow is very good at his job, always concerned about his patients and always kind to them. However, they cannot respond with gratitude: people come to Harrow after death. Daniel is a first-rate pathologist, one of the best in Australia.

The main character considers it his duty to investigate the death of every person in the autopsy room. The authorities are unhappy because Harrow is a doctor, not a detective — but that does not bother him at all. While solving the mysterious deaths of the victims, Daniel tries to come to terms with his past and improve his relationship with his teenage daughter.

4. Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, 1993-1998

In the late 1860s, Michaela Quinn was doing something rare for a woman — treating patients in her father's clinic. The fifth daughter in the family, Michaela is determined to prove that a doctor's gender does not matter in medicine.

When her father dies, Michela loses her job. Her family's finances allow her to live a carefree and wealthy life in her native Boston, but Dr. Quinn chooses challenges — she goes to a remote town in the Wild West.

The locals do not give a warm welcome to a female doctor, and she has to prove time and time again that she is no worse than her male counterparts. Here the main character experiences professional successes and failures, love and unexpected acquaintances.

5. M*A*S*H, 1972-1983

Early 1950s, war-torn South Korea. Benjamin, Frank, Max and Margaret work in a mobile surgical hospital, trying not to go crazy from the nightmare that surrounds them. The only way they can do this is with humor. The main characters argue between surgeries, make dark jokes and play pranks on each other.

The series is based on a novel and a series of short stories by Richard Hooker. After starting as a regular sitcom, M*A*S*H grew into something more, but after 40 years it is almost forgotten. It is thanks to M*A*S*H that we have the medical dramas of the next generations from House to Grey's Anatomy.

6. A Young Doctor's Notebook, 2012-2013

Doctor Vladimir Bomgard is sent to a remote Russian village. The reality is far from his expectations: it's 1917, the patients are superstitious and suspicious of progressive medical methods, and Bomgard has few assistants.

The main character does the best he can: armed with ingenuity and the advice of a young midwife, he takes on a difficult birth, pulls teeth without anesthesia, and tries to stop an outbreak of syphilis among the local population. But the heavy burden takes its toll, and Vladimir gradually becomes addicted to morphine.

7. New Amsterdam, 2018-2023

Things are not going well at the oldest public hospital in the US: the clinic is underfunded and lacks staff and new equipment. The new medical director, Max Goodwin, is enthusiastic about fixing the problems. He really wants to make healthcare accessible to everyone — after all, that's what public hospitals are for.

His colleagues do not believe a word of it: all the promises made by his predecessors have turned out to be empty words. But Max has no intention of giving up and plans to put an end to the cumbersome bureaucratic system. But the joy of his first successes is overshadowed by personal problems: his family is falling apart and Max is diagnosed with cancer.

8. Call the Midwife, 2012-...

England, 1950s. Young Jenny Lee has just graduated as a midwife and arrived in one of the poorest areas of London. She enters the service of the Nonnatus House, where nuns and medically trained staff help women in labor. The days of Jenny and her friends are filled with endless phone calls, long bike rides and sleepless nights.

Each episode tells touching stories of the patients' lives, their pain, their fears, and their constant hope for a miracle. The series is adapted from the memoirs of Jennifer Worth, who worked as a midwife in a poor area of the British capital in the 1950s.

9. Nurse Jackie, 2009-2015

Jackie works as an emergency room nurse. Attentive and compassionate with the sick, she is rude, harsh and sarcastic with her colleagues. Without hesitation, Jackie sets her own rules in the hospital, argues with her superiors and does not hesitate to break the law for the sake of the patients.

The main character copes with the stress of the constant flow of patients in a rather unusual way — with the help of Vicodin, which is supplied to her by the hospital pharmacist Eddie, who also happens to be her lover. At the same time, Jackie is married with two children. The seven seasons of the series are devoted to Jackie's double life and the anguish it causes her, her friendships and her problems at work.
