9 Chicago Fire Characters Fans Want Back & Why They Left the Show
Some of them moved to different states or countries; some were fired or transferred; some tragically died… But fans would give anything to see them on Fire once again.
Note: This list is ranked by how many fans chose these characters for a return.
9. Jessica Chilton
Chili was a Firehouse 51 paramedic in Seasons 3 & 4. Despite being difficult at times, fans sympathized with her since the woman’s childhood weighed heavily on her. In Season 4, Chili lost control after her twin sister Jellybean was found dead, and sometime during her downward spiral, she was fired for drinking on the job.
We’ve been advocating for Chili’s return and redemption arc for ages now.
8. Blake Gallo
Gallo was a Firehouse 51 firefighter from Season 8 to Season 12. The man loved his job and was great at it, impressing even the OGs like Casey, Herrmann, and Severide. In Season 12, it was revealed that Gallo left Chicago and went to live in Detroit with his aunt, where he found a job as a firefighter in a local firehouse.
Gallo’s relentless energy and enthusiasm made him a joy to be around.
7. Gabriela Dawson
Gabby was a Firehouse 51 paramedic from Season 1 to Season 6. Temperate and aggressive, Gabby was ruthless and toxic in relationships with colleagues and lovers alike which she especially proved in her marriage with Casey. In Season 6, Gabby was assigned to Puerto Rico to provide medical attention to those in need.
Believe it or not, some fans want Gabby back because she was, quote, “hot.”
6. Sylvie Brett
Brett was a Firehouse 51 paramedic from Season 3 to Season 12. Starting off the show as a naive and trusting small-town girl, she quickly proved herself as a competent medic and a genuinely positive person. In Season 12, Brett left Chicago after marrying Matt Casey, moving to Oregon to live happily ever after with him.
Loved by fans and colleagues, Brett is already missed (especially by Violet).
5. Matthew Casey
Casey was a Firehouse 51 firefighter from Season 1 to Season 10, and appeared on the show in Season 11 and 12, too. Highly professional and competent, Casey was always respected by his colleagues and superiors, and he proved himself as a good man. In Season 12, he married Sylvie Brett and moved to Portland with her for good.
Casey’s return is everyone’s default dream thanks to his being the OG crew member.
4. Evan Hawkins
Hawkins was a Chicago Fire Department Paramedic Field Chief in Season 10 & 11. Though he started off as an overly serious bureaucratic type, we soon saw the human side of Hawkins: a good and supportive man who took care of the ones he loved. In Season 11, he died after rescuing a woman from the Pickwick Theatre Fire.
Hawkins was different from other characters, and fans have fond memories of him.
3. Peter Mills
Mills was a Firehouse 51 firefighter in Season 1, 2, and 3. The young man was willing to go to any lengths to become a firefighter at first, but as time passed, he realized it wasn’t for him. In Season 3, Mills became the second major character to leave when he moved to North Carolina with his mother and sister to run a family restaurant.
For fans, Mills is the symbol of Chicago Fire’s golden era, so they want him back.
2. Brian Zvonecek
Otis was a Firehouse 51 firefighter from Season 1 to Season 8. A wholesome and positive man, he was often considered undermotivated as he didn’t feel appreciated enough. Despite that, Otis was a friend to everyone, and someone people could rely on. In Season 8, Otis died from his injuries after the Arnow Mattress Fire case.
Otis has always been one of the most fan-beloved Chicago Fire characters.
1. Leslie Shay
Shay was a Firehouse 51 paramedic in Seasons 1 & 2. An amazing person and professional, Shay had her way around people and had great chemistry with most of her colleagues. She was also the first major character to leave the show: in Season 2, Shay died in the line of duty from severe injuries she received from a partial building collapse.
Perhaps the biggest fan-favorite of all time, Shay was named the most as the character fans would have loved to see more of. Sadly, that’s impossible.
