1. Everybody Hates Chris, 2005-2009

The author of the idea for the series is comedian Chris Rock, who once started with stand-up comedy and is now one of the most popular Hollywood stars. Based on his life, four seasons of the show were filmed, imbued with the nostalgic atmosphere of the 80s and telling about the childhood and youth of the future artist.

To be more precise, Everybody Hates Chris is a pseudo-biography of Rock, as many events, facts, names and dates in this story are fictitious.

Chris lives with his family in Brooklyn. He is the oldest child in the family, and unlike his sister and brother, he goes to a privileged school. Chris is immediately made fun of by his classmates, but he quickly makes friends thanks to his intelligence and kindness. The boy has a happy family and weird neighbors. And the girl of his dreams lives nearby, who has an incredibly strict grandmother.

2. Anne with an E, 2017-2019

Anne with an E is an already cult Netflix series. Fans started petitions after its cancellation, streamed the released episodes to boost ratings, and recommended it to everyone. Unfortunately, it didn't help.

What is so special about this series and what is it about? It's the story of an orphan with a vivid imagination who is finally taken in by a foster family – although when Anne arrives at the farm, she is told that they were expecting a boy. The girl does not despair or get upset – on the contrary, she tries to prove to her foster parents that she deserves a chance.

3. The Baby-Sitters Club, 2020-2021

The Baby-Sitters Club is a hidden gem in the Netflix catalog: the series was enthusiastically received by critics, but viewers never seemed to know of its existence.

Based on the book series of the same name, the dramedy is dedicated to five schoolgirls from a provincial town: in order to somehow brighten up their dull everyday lives and earn some money at the same time, they unite in the so-called Baby-Sitters Club.

The plot, however, is not limited to stories about part-time work; the viewer observes the everyday life of the girls – their relationships with their parents and the boys they like at school.

4. Atypical, 2017-2021

Atypical is an underrated Netflix project about a boy with autism. Despite his disorder, Sam tries to live a normal teenage life: working part-time after school, making plans for the future, being friends with the funny guy Zahid, and dreaming of a romantic relationship.

The boy has a hard time fitting in and dealing with his problems, but his family and friends always come to the rescue and never let Sam feel alone.

The show, which sheds light on the issues facing people with autism, does not just focus on Sam's personal struggle. Over the course of four seasons, the creators have maintained a balance between a classic coming-of-age story and a family drama. Atypical seems to have been created to gather the whole family together and provide a sense of comfort.

5. A Series of Unfortunate Events, 2017-2019

Based on the book series of the same name, this Netflix project tells the story of the Baudelaire orphans: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. One day, 33 misfortunes rain down on the children. They lose their parents and fall into the evil hands of Count Olaf, a cunning actor who wants to get his hands on the children's inheritance.

The people around them do not believe the orphans when they try to explain that their guardian can be really dangerous. The indifference of the adults becomes the cause of a series of misfortunes for the Baudelaire family.

A Series of Unfortunate Events is, at first glance, a dark children's tale. But the series, like the book, hides many serious thoughts about good, evil, morality, and the complexity of relationships between adults and children.

6. Julie and the Phantoms, 2020

Julie is a teenager with a passion for music. A meeting with a group of young men in a record store turns her life upside down: first, her new acquaintances are pop singers, and second, they have been dead for 25 years. Together with the phantoms, the girl will sort out her personal life, write songs and find her own way.

Julie and the Phantoms is one of the many shows that Netflix canceled too soon. In just one season, the show managed to gather a devoted fan base, which makes the cancellation even more heartbreaking.

7. Suburgatory, 2011-2014

Tessa and George have been together since before Tessa could even use the potty. George has done a good job raising his daughter, but now he suddenly feels he can't do it alone. So they say goodbye to New York and move to the suburbs.

Suburgatory may be one of the best teen shows of its time – although it would be wrong to limit its audience to teenagers. Although the big share of screen time is devoted to Tessa and her attempts to fit into the world of "mean girls," the ordinary city worker George gets its share of adventures.

He tries to understand the (exceptionally ridiculous) local rules and deal with the increased attention of single mothers.

8. The Goldbergs, 2013-2023

Adam Goldberg's family is a classic dysfunctional one.

There's the overprotective, control freak mother, Beverly; her husband, Murray, spends his days and nights in a chair in front of the TV; Grandpa Albert, continues to party like he's still in his twenties; Adam himself, is a video game and Star Wars fan; his older sister, Erica is the ultimate "homecoming queen"; his older brother, Barry, thinks he's cool even though he's not.

The Goldbergs is based on the childhood of the show's creator, Adam F. Goldberg, so it's set in the '80s and the characters are based on members of his own family.

9. Lost in Space, 2018-2021

The action takes place in the year 2046. The future has already arrived, humanity is exploring the vastness of space and discovers that one of the planets can become a haven for colonists. This is where the ship with Earthlings is headed, hoping to find a new home.

Unexpectedly, the ship is attacked, but the Robinson family manages to escape. They find themselves on a planet with no communication and no information about other survivors. The Robinsons must face their own fears and not lose hope for rescue.

Lost in Space is an adventure fantasy that has been overshadowed by more popular space projects. This is an excellent option for watching it with the whole family: the series will impress adults with its plot intrigues, and thanks to its optimism and dynamic plot, it will be able to attract the attention of young viewers.
