Let the season of love begin.

While there are many romantic period dramas that viewers absolutely adore, not a single title can compete with Bridgerton. The show about 8 siblings navigating the world of love and intrigue in a highly fictionalized Regency London left everyone hot and heavy after the steamy season 1, and stressed out after the love triangle of season 2.

Now that season 3 has almost arrived, viewers are ready to celebrate the friends-to-lovers trope represented by Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. The first part of the season premieres tomorrow, May 16. To remind yourself of how the relationship between Colin and Penelope has progressed over the years, check out their key moments below.

The Very First Dance (S1E1)

There was nothing sweeter than the very first dance we saw between the two characters. Colin was kind and noble to save Penelope from Cressida Cowper's bullying, taking her to the floor when no one else would. The moment perfectly captures the characters and their struggles, and also shows us exactly why Pen is so besotted.

What a Barb! (S1E4)

Throughout the first season, we see glimpses of the friendship between Colin and Penelope that build their relationship. For example, unaware that Penelope is the one hiding under Lady Whistledown's name, Colin was very happy to gossip with his best friend about the host of the ball, even throwing some puns her way.

Penelope Watching Colin Sing (S1E8)

There must have been many moments when Penelope could have quietly watched Colin from the sidelines, considering how welcome she always was at Bridgerton Manor. But this one scene was special, because when he saw her, his voice twitched, as if some realization was happening at that very moment. Nothing was said, but the feeling was there.

Colin Bridgerton Is No More Your Friend (S2E1)

To say that Penelope's family is unsupportive of her quest would be an understatement. However, thanks to her sister Prudence, we find out that she has been exchanging letters with Colin. Even though both her sister and her mother don't believe it, it's a big sign to viewers that their bond has strengthened over the summer.

Someone Like… Colin! (S2E2)

Colin may have said that his decision to travel the world was inspired by Penelope, but she certainly wasn't happy to hear the news. The two remained pen pals, but Pen couldn't contain her excitement when she saw him back in London. The eye contact the two shared definitely indicated that there was more than just a friendship.

Finding Their Purposes (S2E6)

There is something very special about how close Colin and Penelope have always been, and how easily she could put him at ease. Lost in life, Colin was afraid that he might not find his purpose, but Pen was there to support him and open up about a dream she wants to fulfill one day. Though the scene wasn't romantic, it brought the two closer together.

Exposing Lord Featherington (S2E8)

While Colin seemed like a fool to go along with the fraud scheme that the new Lord Featherington had set up, it all came together in the last episode of the second season. He came through and made a powerful speech to stop the scheme altogether and protect not only Penelope, but the entire Featherington family. A gesture no one could have expected.

Colin Doesn’t Want to Court Penelope (S2E8)

While this is a sad moment, it is crucial to moving the story forward in Season 3. Under pressure from other gentlemen about his relationship with Penelope, Colin proclaims loud and clear that he wouldn't court her in his ‘wildest fantasies'. Overhearing the conversation, Penelope goes to her room, heartbroken, and that's where their season 2 arc ends.
