The best horror shows on Netflix for those who have seen all of Flanagan.

Speaking of Netflix, Mike Flanagan 's well-crafted and atmospheric shows like Midnight Mass or the recent hit The Fall of the House of Usher have found fame on the streaming service, occupying the entire horror niche of Netflix originals. But Flanagan's works aren't the only ones bringing a creepy, chilling vibe to the platform.

Here are 7 undeservedly unpopular horror shows available on Netflix this January.

7. Slasher

Release Date: March 4, 2016

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 80%

Number of Seasons: 5

Each season focuses on a serial killer inspired by a different figure, such as Jack the Ripper, Jason Voorhees, and Ghostface. Unfortunately, there are only three seasons of the series available on Netflix, as the last two were released on Shudder, but for subscribers of the former, this is a great opportunity to experience a great horror anthology.

6. The Order

Release Date: March 7, 2019

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 100%

Number of Seasons: 2

The Order is about a college freshman who joins a secret society that practices magic and gets involved in a confrontation between werewolves and magicians. The series offers an excellent supernatural drama with elements of horror and dark academy. Unfortunately, despite high ratings from both critics and viewers, Netflix stayed true to itself and canceled the series after the second season due to insufficient ratings.

5. Brand New Cherry Flavor

The plot revolves around Lisa Nova (Rosa Salazar), an up-and-coming filmmaker who arrives in LA to pursue her career as a director. However, an unexpected encounter with an enigmatic producer plunges her into a maelstrom of bizarre and sinister events. Not everyone liked the surreal style of the series, but if you are willing to endure a lot of body horror and crazy plot twists, then this is definitely your cup of tea.

4. Marianne

Release Date: September 13, 2019

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 94%

Number of Seasons: 1 (miniseries)

The French series Marianne immediately amazed and terrified audiences. The story centers on a horror writer who returns to her hometown only to realize that the characters from her books exist in real life. Despite its cancellation after one season, the series is definitely worth watching, as it is one of the scariest in recent years.

3. Black Summer

Set in the initial weeks of a catastrophic zombie apocalypse, the show follows a mother who embarks on a harrowing journey to find her daughter and adapt to a terrifying and hostile new world. Although not often mentioned these days, the series is a great representative of the zombie genre, reminiscent of 28 Days Later thanks to its realistic depiction of the aftermath of a disaster.

Release Date (Netflix): October 1, 2021

Rotten Tomatoes Score (Audience): 47%

Number of Seasons: 1

Technically, this is not a show, but rather a collection of short sci-fi films. Produced by Oats Studios, founded by Neill Blomkamp, the anthology features stories from a variety of genres, including Blomkamp's signature sci-fi, some fantasy, horror, and even a black comedy.

Given the experimental nature of the shorts, don't hold your breath expecting them to be on the same level as Blomkamp's feature movies — yet, each one is still highly entertaining.
