“If you will not turn to the dark side, then perhaps she will.”

There is no doubt it’s always tear-jerking when a good movie guy dies or in particular is killed. However, there were obviously some moments when we cried watching the demise of the bad guys (and don’t say you never did it).

These 7 movie villains, chosen by Reddit, literally broke our hearts with their deaths.

1. Blade Runner ( 1982) - Roy Batty

Rutger Hauer’s rogue replicant died lamenting his memories "will be lost in time, like tears in rain" and realizing the inevitability of the fate waiting for him after what he had done.

“Probably the only villain I felt deeply for,” says Redditor @_my_simple_review.

2. The Mummy Returns (2001) - Imhotep

In the end of the movie the audience starts sympathizing with the High Priest of Osiris, whose actions were dictated by his love for Anck-su-namun, who eventually betrays him. Imhotep’s subsequent death is an extremely sad and touching moment to rewatch.

3. The Rock (1996) - General Frank Hummel

The villain of Michael Bay’s thriller was really naive about his plan that could be made only through deaths of the innocent and that’s why he fell victim to it too. Ed Harris’ Hummel had good intentions and trusted his people, who relentlessly betrayed him.

4. Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi (1983) - Darth Vader

Yes, we can’t make such a list without mentioning the death of the most powerful Jedi Knights in the galaxy, Darth Vader aka Anakin Skywalker. Reconciling with his son Luke while being mortally wounded, he seems to be really conscious about his previous sins.

5. Spider-Man 2 (2004) - Dr. Otto Octavius / Octopus

Alfred Molina’s character transformed from a curious scientist into a mad creature going against his ethics and against humanity too. However, in the finale he realizes his mistakes and sacrifices himself to save the city, gaining the viewers’ admiration.

6. The Dark Knight (2008) - Harvey Dent

“He did everything right and still lost everything. His demise is heartbreaking,” admits Redditor @n0tTHISguy.

Indeed, Aaron Eckhart’s Dent lost his girlfriend Rachel and tragically didn’t manage to enact revenge on those he saw responsible for her death.

7. Chronicle (2012) - Andrew Detmer

This demise is devastating due to the fact that it could have easily been avoided if Dane DeHaan’s Andrew received the help he desperately needed. Nevertheless, he was left as an outcast, which led to his villainy interfering with his friends’ intentions.
