7 Hit Anime Series With 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score Available to Stream on Netflix
All these anime series are very different. But they all score 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Anime is going from strength to strength. As evidenced by the fact that all of these shows have a 100% perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes:
1. Onimusha
1 season, 8 episodes.
Set in Japan's early Edo period (17th century), an aging legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, armed with the Oni Gauntlet, sets out to defeat the demons (Genma). But every time he kills a Genma, he becomes more and more consumed by darkness.
This anime is all action and features some stunning fight scenes.
2. Blue Eye Samurai
1 season, 8 episodes
Another anime set in the Edo period, this show focuses on the isolationist policy of the time, known as Sakoku, which involved Japan closing its borders to outsiders.
It follows Mizu, a swordmaster of mixed Japanese and white ancestry, as she seeks revenge on those who made her an outcast in the country she calls home.
It's violent and bloody, but you can't help but feel that Mizu's mission is justified.
3. Castlevania
4 seasons, 32 episodes
Trevor Belmont is the last surviving member of a legendary family of monsters from Wallachia. But this time he's up against it.
After his wife was falsely accused of witchcraft and killed, Dracula swore revenge and summoned an army of demons. Now everyone lives in fear.
With his trusty companions, Dracula's dhampir son Alucard and a magician named Sypha Belnades, Trevor must defeat the army of demons.
4. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
1 season, 10 episodes
This series is a prequel to CD Projekt's Red Cyberpunk 2077. Set in a dystopian future, it tells the story of David, a Latino kid who is relentlessly bullied and whose life is turned upside down after a drive-by shooting.
In a world that is basically lawless, and in an effort to just survive, David becomes an edgerunner (a high-tech, black-market mercenary).
5. Vinland Saga
2 seasons, 48 episodes
Played across two seasons of 24 episodes each, this anime deals with some pretty heavy topics, but is captivating.
Season 1 follows the life of a young Icelandic boy named Thorfinn. After seeing his father killed, Thorfinn becomes a mercenary working for the Vikings as he seeks revenge on those who took his father's life.
Season 2 sees Thorfinn become a slave and has a very different feel. The show depicts the physical and mental toll of being enslaved and forced to work in poor conditions in a beautifully balanced way. It's not for the faint of heart, but it's a thought-provoking watch.
6. Super Crooks
1 season, 13 episodes
A show that deals with risk and reward. Johnny Bolt is a supervillain planning one final heist before getting out of the game. To pull it off, he enlists the help of other supervillains he's become acquainted with.
But this is no ordinary heist. The gang are going after a super-powered mob boss in an effort to walk away as millionaires.
Think anime meets The Italian Job and you're in the right ballpark.
7. Dorohedoro
1 season, 12 episodes
This show employs the perfect blend of violence and humour in a dystopian world to give an edgy yet realistic tone despite its fantasy elements.
Caiman, a man with a reptilian head, has lost his memory. He has a strong platonic friendship with a female called Nikaido. Together, they do what they can to survive in a violent world while trying to recover Caiman's memory.
For its dystopian and violent tendencies, this is actually quite a light show. But expect lots of blood.
