And no, death is never an excuse for our mental experiments, so no one is safe from becoming a professor at their alma mater.
Surprise: being very passionate about something doesn't make you a good teacher on that subject. One of the main aspects of a good teacher is the ability to make their students interested in their field of study, but that's never enough.
The process of pouring the knowledge that they have accumulated throughout the years of succumbing to their passion into others is hard.
It requires people skills and an understanding of how kids' psyche works. That's why people are being taught about how to teach other people! And being a professional in a certain field is only a part of it.
