7 Gruesome Final Destination Deaths That Still Live Rent Free in My Head
Spooky deaths for a spooky season.
One of the most popular movie franchises in the early to mid-2000s was the Final Destination series, known for its gruesome deaths of characters who have cheated Death.
The films vary in quality, but these most gruesome deaths are all of sickeningly excellent quality and they are the main reason why everyone watches the movies.
Final Destination 5 - Olivia’s eye surgery
Horror fans know that to make an audience squirm, you need to target the eyes, teeth, or fingernails. In this case, it's the eyes. Olivia undergoes Lasik surgery, but things take a turn for the worse when the laser starts cutting into her eye - a suitably gruesome death that deserves a place on any horror list.
To top it off, she meets her final demise by falling through the glass of a skyscraper. Who wouldn’t be reconsidering eye surgery after watching this?
Final Destination 2 - Evan’s fire escape ladder
There are multiple ways in which Evan could have died, but miraculously, he survives every obstacle thrown his way while in his apartment. The most intense moment occurs when his hand gets trapped in the food waste disposer, leaving us wondering if it will accidentally turn on. And considering the intensity of the Final Destination series, such a scenario is highly likely.
However, Evan ultimately dies when he slips on the spaghetti he had carelessly thrown out the window earlier, causing him to fall to the ground and impale his eye on the fire ladder he had hoped would save him.
Final Destination 3 - Erin’s nail gun incident
Erin works in the back of a hardware store, which is already a risky place to be. The warehouse is filled with dangerous objects that could harm anyone at any time, creating a constant sense of nervous anticipation (perfect for a horror movie). However, what makes this particular incident truly satisfying is the way she meets her demise.
She is forcefully pushed back, and a nail gun mercilessly fires a dozen nails through her head. The whole ordeal is swift, shocking, and absolutely brutal.
Final Destination 3 - Ashley and Ashlyn’s tan gone wrong
Tanning beds are a strange and dated concept to many, but after witnessing the horrific scene of two girls burning alive and struggling to escape from locked beds, it's likely that many who did once use them cancelled their salon appointments.
The girls may have been portrayed as ditzy airheads who indirectly caused their own deaths. Still, no one deserves such a gruesome fate, especially due to a preventable electrical fault caused by a discarded slushie.
Final Destination 5 - Candice’s gymnastics accident
The death scene of Candice in Final Destination 5 is a prime example of how a death scene should be executed: The tension is palpable, with the multiple possibilities of how it could happen keeping the audience on the edge of their seats, resulting in one of the most brutal deaths in the entire series.
The buildup is paced perfectly, leading to a quick and shocking end to the character, that leaves a lasting impact - the sound alone will stay with you! If all the deaths in the series were as well-crafted as this one, the movies would undoubtedly be held in higher esteem. This scene is a standout moment in arguably the best film of the franchise.
The Final Destination - Hunt’s pool-vacuum accident
Hunt experiences a distressing event where his organs are forcefully removed from his body via a swimming pool intake jet. Although the visual effects of his intestines being propelled into the air are a little unbelievable, this death has everyone covering their eyes and groaning.
It is important to note that Hunt's character was portrayed as an arrogant wise-ass, and many believe this death was somewhat deserved.
Final Destination (1) - Opening aeroplane crash
The initial accident of the entire series, Final Destination's plane crash, is creepier than the others because the warning signs are more subtle and less obviously sinister. But the crash itself is very quick, and we don’t really see much happen outside of Alex getting burned down to a skull-face. The series hadn't yet discovered its true potential of escalating and gruesome deaths, but it's a memorable sequence nonetheless.
